VO2 Performance Events, in partnership with its sponsors, would like to welcome all participants, along with their family and friends, to the beautiful Port Macquarie-Hastings region on the Mid North Coast of NSW. Congratulations on entering the 2019 Beach to Brother Trail Running Festival, and welcome back if this is not your first occasion racing with us. We look forward to you experiencing the wonder of the event as you run through some of the most beautiful beaches and coastal trails the east coast of Australia has to offer. From the man made coastal pathways to the rugged untouched coastline, we are sure you will not be disappointed with your experience. Take the time to enjoy the beauty of the course, and maybe take your mobile telephone along to take the occasional selfie and upload it to the Beach to Brother Event App. We ask two things of you and your supporters. One, enjoy every minute you have here; and two, do not destroy what you have come to enjoy! Please do not leave any litter on any part of the course. Thank you. Beach to Brother Administration.

It is each and every participants responsibility to understand the information provided in this event guide, and share it with their

supporters.

Please, read the guide thoroughly.

COMPULSORY RACE BIB & BUS TICKET COLLECTION This service will be available on Town Green in Port Macquarie. This location has no ‘pin’ on Google Maps. Search for The Beach House, Port Macquarie. We will be located 20m west of the facility under Gazebos. Click here to see the Compulsory Bib Collection point. Compulsory Race Bib & Bus Ticket collection will be open from 8:00am to 4:00pm. Port Macquarie running club – Port Pacers, will operate race bib & bus ticket collection. It is compulsory that all competitors collect their race bibs and bus wrist bands prior to the start of their event. This is the sole responsibility of each competitor, and no responsibility will be accepted by the event organisers of event team. You can arrange for someone else to collect your race bib and bus ticket, on your behalf, but you will need to provide them with a copy of your registration email so they can provide it as evidence when collecting on your behalf. Due to the four different start lines along the 42km point to point course, event staff will have minimal time available at the start of each event to set up the start line. Given this, 30 minutes will be allocated prior to the start of each event for last minute collection of bibs and bus wrist bands. Staff will be working to a strict timeline; it is your responsibility to collect your bib in time. If a competitor starts late, race finish times will not be adjusted. RACEBIBS&MYLAPSELECTRONICTIMING

Your race bib is specific to your race entry. On the reverse of your race bib is a MYLAPS electronic timing chip that cannot be bent or folded as it will cause damage to the magnetic strip inside. MYLAPS timing is the most accurate timing available, used for most major sporting events worldwide. In order to ensure you receive an accurate and official finish result, it is your responsibility to ensure you wear your bib correctly. Race images will be reviewed to determine if competitors wear their bibs correctly if times are requested to be changed.

Watch this small video to ensure you wear your bib correctly: Click here to learn how to wear your bib correctly

AID STATIONS It is compulsory for competitors to be able to carry a minimum of 250ml of fluids at all times on the course There will be NO cups on the course; self-fill stations only Aid stations are limited on the course. The ability to carry fluids is essential, and the only mandatory item required on the course. For the 2019 event, fluids available will include supplies from our sponsor Hammer Nutrition Australia, and water. October can get quite hot and humid in the Port Macquarie region; therefore, carbohydrate free electrolytes will be provided as the main fluid source on the course. This will be in the form of Hammer Nutrition Fizz http://www.hammernutrition.com/products/endurolytes-fizz-reg-.elf.html in various flavours. In addition to the on-course nutrition, it is strongly advised that runners have a race plan prepared. If you feel you have a need for a specific brand/flavour/strength of sports nutrition then plan to be self-sufficient to satisfy these needs while also knowing what is available in general along the course to draw upon or supplement if needed. Each aid-station will have the following: WATER FIZZ SUNSCREEN It is compulsory that everyone carries their own water on this course. We are trying hard to commit to having no rubbish on the course and this includes cups. Therefore, there are no cups at water stations, and you need to fill your own flask so start preparing as you approach the aid station. The water is not for pouring over your head so please do not do this! Think about everyone else behind you that also needs fluids!

a. ANY PERSON WITHOUT WATER AT THE START WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO START. b. ANY PERSON DISCARDING THEIR WATER BOTTLE/FLASK/PACK DURING THE RACE WILL

NOT BE ALLOWED TO PROCEED, SPOT CHECKS WILL BE CARRIED OUT ON THE COURSE AND AT EACH AID STATION.

c. ANY PERSON NOT FINISHING WITH A WATER BOTTLE/FLASK/PACK WILL BE DISQUALIFIED AND RECEIVE A DNF IN THE RESULTS.

Although these conditions seem strict, we have seen people every year have dehydration problems on the course. These conditions are for the safety of every person on the course. Aid Station cut-off times for the course.

EVENT PARKINGDue to the number of people involved with the event, and the various starting locations, parking will be very limited at all points on the course. We encourage participants and spectators to use common sense when locating somewhere to park their vehicle. If possible, please consider car-sharing as an option to reduce traffic during the event. Please do whatever you can as participants and spectators to limit the number of cars associated with the event. Please think about parking safely and consider residents in the area. START – MARATHON and TEAM-RELAY MARATHON The Marathon and Team Relay Marathon both start from the northern end of Town Beach, close to the Breakwall. Parking is available in several locations, and within very minimal walking distance to the Start. Locations include Town Beach Car Park, Owen Street, Stewart Street, William Street, and Owen Street. START – HALF MARATHON The Half Marathon starts on the southern side of Lake Cathie. To enter the start line you will enter the beach at the reserve on Bundella Avenue, adjacent to Saltwater Apartments. This is a residential area so please restrict parking in this area. The best parking option is on the northern side of the Lake, approx. 400m from the start, in the carpark off Ocean Drive. There is also a children’s play park located at this point. START – 10KM DASH The 10km Dash starts on the beach in front of the Camden Haven SLSC. Parking is available directly to the side of the SLSC on The Parade. There are also other parking opportunities available in several of the roads that turn off The Parade close to the SLSC. START – 5KM FUN RUN/WALK The 5km fun Run/Walk starts at Laurie Reserve, Laurie Street, Laurieton. Parking is available. There are considerable parking opportunities available in the surrounding streets.

RACECANCELLATIONGiven the nature of the Beach to Brother course there might be certain situations whereas the event is deemed unsafe to proceed, such as bushfire, floods, or extreme weather. Under these circumstances the event may need to be cancelled for the safety of all. Due to the uncertain nature of such situations, it is difficult to make advance decisions. As much advance notice as possible will be given to entrants; however, the nature of the crisis might allow for no warning. Event organisers will provide updates via this link: Beach to Brother Facebook If there is any reason why the race is cancelled, uncontrolled by the event organisation, entrants agree that all race entry fees are non-refundable.

Page 12: B2B2019 Event Guide 1 - Beach to Brother

FINISHLINELOGISTICSAll runners and spectators should carefully read the following information. The dramatic ascent to the finish line at North Brother Mountain will make for a spectacular finish line experience. We believe that both runners and spectators will enjoy relaxing at the finish line and enjoying the spectacular view from atop the mountain. The road to the top of the mountain will be officially closed by NSW Police. Beach to Brother will operate a courtesy shuttle service from the top to bottom and return between 0830hrs and 1430hrs for all persons wishing to use it. Getting people out of Dooragan National Park (North Brother Mountain), safely and in a timely manner, presents a very significant safety and logistical challenge. As there is very limited parking space atop North Brother Mountain, and given the narrow steep winding road that provides access in and out, access to the top of North Brother will be for event and emergency vehicles only. Please park at the base of the mountain and utilise this free service.

TEAMRELAYSPECIALADVICE

The Enriched Health Care Team Relay Marathon is exactly what it suggests, a team relay. At no point must two runners from the same team be running at the same time. At each Aid Station on the course, it is possible that team relay members can swap over. At this time they must transfer across the Race Bib with attached Timing Chip to the new team runner. Aid Station Marshals will be recording team members swap overs which will be relayed back to the timing system. All swap overs must be in accordance with the information provided using the online advice sheet: Team Relay Advice FormNote:

• Maximum number of team members is FOUR. • A runner can complete more than one section consecutively, but this needs to be advised on the

Team Relay Advice Form. • Runners MUST swap at the aid station as specified on the Team Relay Advice Form (recorded by

Marshal’s) • No more than ONE runner running on the course at any time. • Race bib MUST be transferred to next team runner for timing and photography. • Race bib MUST be visible, on the front, at all times.

Beach to Brother advises all teams have a vehicle dedicated to team logistics.

RACERULES

For reasons of fairness, safety and responsibility, for your own actions and of those around you, you are expected to abide by the following rules. Please be aware, we will not accept ignorance as an excuse; therefore, failure to comply with the race rules and conditions may lead to penalties or disqualification.

• Runners are not allowed to transfer or sell their entry. • No person may start the event assuming the identity of another or without being properly

entered. Any such act will result in the respective entry being cancelled and all details removed from the official results.

• All runners agreeing to the terms and conditions as part of their entry must have read and understood the specific race rules listed here in addition to the information contained within this website. Information may be changed at any time up to the start of the event(s).

• This is a physically arduous and mentally challenging event and no responsibility will be taken for any accidents/injuries. Runners are strongly advised to have their own medical insurance covering the costs of medical evacuation if required.

• The Race Management Team may prevent any runner from starting, even after their entry has been accepted, or retire a runner during the event, if it is decided that the runner may be placing themselves or others at any risk whatsoever, or for any other reason.

• All runners shall obey directions from Race Officials, Race Marshals, Police, Medical, Ambulance, Rural Fire Service personnel and Pacers/Sweepers. Failure to adhere to these rules or directions on the day may result in disqualification.

• All runners must be 17 years or over on race day (14 for the 10km Dash, 8 for the 5km Fun Run/Walk – aged 8 to 12 must be supervised by an adult at all times on the course).

• Runners are to show respect for the environment, landowners, local communities, other recreational users, and fellow competitors at all times. As this course is on public lands and National Parks, recreational users are to be offered right of way at all times. Failure to comply with this will result in not being allowed to participate in future events.

Page 14: B2B2019 Event Guide 1 - Beach to Brother

14

• Runners will not intentionally prevent fellow competitors from overtaking if it is safe for them to do so without causing harm to others.

• Runners must carry a water bottle or hydration pack (or similar), with a minimum capacity of 250ml, to refill at aid-stations. To be environmentally friendly, no cups will be provided at the aid stations.

• Runners must ensure race numbers are worn on the front of the torso, or shorts, at all times. This has your MYLAPS timing chip attached to it.

• Runners must dispose of all litter in the bins provided on the course. • Runners must remain on the officially designated course at all times. The course will be

manned by volunteers and marshals, and will be marked or signposted where necessary. • Runners must co-operate with all safety signage and marshal direction on the course.

There are sections of the course where it is not safe to overtake, and where you need to cross a main road - clearly displayed signage will be in place at these locations.

• Runners must notify the Event Medical Team of any significant medical history (e.g. asthma, diabetes…) or any new information that was not added to your registration form at the time of your online registration.

• Runners must assist fellow competitors who have injured themselves during the event. If you come across an injured runner, please assist and ask a fellow runner to inform the next available race official of the situation. Times for assisting fellow competitors with an injury will be adjusted to compensate for any losses.

• Runners must not accept any outside assistance during the event. • Runners must wear clothing on their upper and lower body appropriate to running. • Winners will be determined by the fastest time recorded on the MYLAPS timing system. • The Race Director’s decision is final. • NOTE: A runner will not be eligible for an award, medallion, certificate or other prize unless

completing the course as provided in these rules, within the official time limit and wearing the official race number, attached to the front of their clothes, preferably on his or her chest, so the words "Beach to Brother" and the allotted race number can be seen throughout the duration of the event. Please do not cut or fold the race number. Aid station personnel will log race numbers for the safety of runners and they must have a clear view of every race number.
