There is a curtain that separates the flight deck from the upper deck compartment at approximately STA 395.

It is not possible to install a door to the flight deck in lieu of the curtain due to decompression venting requirements.

Galley The galley is Supplier Furnished

Equipment (SFE), manufactured by SHOWA Aircraft Industries Co.

A SFE chiller is optional and is installed in the outboard compartment beneath the counter. The chiller will cool all of the lower compartments or if a compartment does not require chilling, the vent in that compartment can be plugged. If a chiller is not installed the compartment will be for miscellaneous stowage.

Buyer Furnished Equipment (BFE) within the galley consists of an oven, coffeemaker, hot cup and standard containers.

A SFE push-button actuated water spigot is installed below the coffeemaker compartment.

A SFE ice drawer is installed beneath the counter, below the sink.

The galley can accept small standard containers and large standard containers. If all three under counter compartments are utilized, a maximum of 8 small standard containers or 5 large standard containers can be installed.

If the stowage compartment is retained, 5 small standard containers or 3 large standard containers can be installed within the two remaining compartments.

The below counter compartments have provisions for adjustable shelves, with the exception of the outboard most compartment (chiller or miscellaneous stowage).

    Supernumerary Seats

The upper deck compartment is designed for the installation of three double business class seats.

The seats are BFE and 16G certification is not required.

The seat track spacing is the same as the 747-400 Passenger upper deck (22.66 inches).

No In Flight Entertainment (IFE) is available on the 747-400 Freighter, therefore, seats do not require any related equipment.

    Supernumerary Seats

The reading lights in the overhead ceiling have hard-wired switches, therefore, no switches are required in the seats.

The seats must not obstruct the movement of the decompression panels on the crewrest wall or restrict the airflow to the floor decompression cages or sidewall decompression vents.

Refer to D6-36230 Appendix B4 for unique 747-400 Freighter seat requirements.5-3

    Emergency Equipment (Upper Deck)

All detachable and overwater equipment is SFE with the exception of the BFE crew lifevests, disposable oxygen mask and first aid kit.

The SFE equipment is basic to the airplane. There is a panel installed on the U21 lavatory wall that accommodates the installation of various emergency

equipment. There are six descent harnesses installed within the upper deck compartment to be used in combination with

the inertia reel descent devices in the flight deck. One harness is provided for each of the six crew members (other than the two flight officers). The two flight crew members are expected to be trained in the use of the decent devices without a harness.

    Exits and Escape Devices

There are two Type A doors on the main deck, Door 1 LH and Door 5 LH, and one Type I exit on the upper deck at STA 405 RH.

The upper deck door is manually operated with a manually deployed but automatically inflating escape slide.

Neither of the main deck doors have escape slides, however, an escape rope is provided, accessible at the upper sill of the main deck door cutout while the door is fully open.

There is a ceiling escape hatch within the flight deck.

There are eight inertia reel descent devices in the flight deck for emergency escape.

    Exits and Escape Devices

The airplane is certified for (8) individuals; (2) flight crew and (6) supernumeraries.

The above occupant limitation is due to egress limits demonstrated for the flight deck escape hatch and service door (egress limits for a pair of Type IV exits is 1-9 passengers, the flight deck escape hatch and crew service door are viewed as equivalent to a pair of Type IV exits).
