Former Students

• My time spent at North Glasgow College allowed me to grown as a person and in my studies. I was able to improve my confidence and build a portfolio of work and skills that stood me in good stead when applying to do my Masters at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee. Without the support and guidance of the tutors, studio facilities and the opportunities to explore new ideas and techniques in a college setting I know I wouldn’t be where I am today and holding a Masters of Fine Art.

• The facilities available at NGC along with the help, support and encouragement of the tutors, allowed for the successful exploration and development of my art practice. Also, providing the skills and knowledge required to progress to a Masters level course.

• North Glasgow College has an exciting and creative art department which nurtured my understanding of art and design and provided the foundation for the development of my own studio practice. Access to range of disciplines including printmaking, painting and sculpture coupled with tutor support offered a challenging and critical environment in which to grow my skill set. With the benefit of the practical advice I was given on the course I was able to submit a successful application to study at Glasgow School of Art for the Masters of Letters course.

• The BA (Hons) course and the lecturers exceeded my expectations; the department’s facilities, space, workshops and training were all excellent. I was impressed how organised and well planned the whole course was from visiting lectures from America and China to local artists who shared information and process in well planned workshops and lectures.

• When I started my studies at North Glasgow College, I had a little experience of how to produce a complete work and curate my own exhibition. It was North Glasgow College and the approachable tutors that enabled me to confidently start a project, complete it and finally exhibit my work. At the end of my degree year and with the help of one of my tutors, I started to work with the Red Road community. Also, I have been invited to exhibit at the People’s Palace which is a great opportunity and achievement for me.

• “The staff don’t direct you, they enable you to find your own direction, and that’s the one that matters in the end.”

• “The lecturers are all well-established practicing artists, which means they are in touch with the real world and how to make progress in it after graduation.”

• “The College building is an inspiration in itself, with its soaring white spaces and many suitable exhibition areas.”

• “Students leave this course with a realistic expectation of what it means to be an artist; my practice has taken on its own momentum as a result of studying at and graduating from North Glasgow College”

• I originally come from Slovakia, a small country in the heart of Europe. I felt I was given great support and at the same time freedom to create whatever I wanted. I always doubted my creative abilities and ideas and to a point, I think I always will, however the support my tutors gave me really made me believe in myself. I stopped questioning too much my creative impulses and let go. This new attitude opened up my mind and I made things I would have never had the courage to produce before.
