Archaeology is the science that studies past human societies and their development by means of the material register recovered through excavation, field survey and a wide range of multidisciplinary analyses. Knowing the past is of fundamental importance for understanding the present.
WHY STUDY ARCHAEOLOGY AT THE UB?
The University of Barcelona is the most highly recognized university in the State according to the majority of international rankings that eval-uate teaching and research quality.
The BA in Archaeology is supported by an academic and re-search structure at the forefront of its field; the section hous-es several top-quality research groups and leads many nation-al and international research projects, all of great importance, thus providing an ideal framework for students’ education and training. At present, the UB BA in Archaeology is considered the best in Spain and one of the best in Europe and the world according to the QS World University Rankings.
The Archaeology BA features a substantial practical ele-ment with more than ten excavations of different periods on key sites, one of them underwater. The Degree also of-fers national and international exchange programme op-portunities by means of agreements with other carefully chosen universities.
The BA in Archaeology is taught in the Faculty of Geogra-phy and History, located on the Raval Campus in the cen-tre of Barcelona. This location facilitates interaction with a large number of cultural institutions. The building houses a specialized library, computer rooms, and three archaeo-logical laboratories, one of them for applying the techniques of the experimental sciences, as well as the possibility of direct practical experience on a real archaeological site: the Tarrés potter’s workshop.
WHO IS THE DEGREE AIMED AT?
The BA in Archaeology is aimed at all those who are in-terested in humankind’s past, from our origins to the pres-ent day. Students are expected to carry out fieldwork and should have a basic knowledge of History.
