A Warm Welcome to all Parishioners and Visitors

24th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sundays: Cycle A Weekdays: Year II 13th September 2020

Jesus tells a story this week about us, about me, about each one of us, if we have the courage to admit it. It’s about a person who is forgiven an incredibly great debt, shall we say millions in today’s money, but who then, the very next moment demands £5 back from one of his own debtors and threatens prison if they can’t pay. God forgives us plenty, there is no argument there, but do we try to be like God and do the same? Tom Wright has a wonderful paragraph on this. He says: It is not that we have to swallow all resentment and ‘forgive and forget’ as though nothing had happened. The key thing is that we should never, ever give up making forgiveness and reconciliation our goal. If confrontation has to happen, as it often does, it must always be with forgiveness in mind, never revenge.

Shall we each try and think: Is there anyone in my life that I need to forgive?

God bless you all,

Father John

BOOKINGS FOR MASS AND MASS TIMES

PLEASE REMEMBER TO BOOK YOUR SEAT FOR MASS,

Last Sunday we had to sadly turn people away that had not booked. This is not nice thing to have to do and a wasted journey for you.

Thank you to the parishioners who were so understanding of having to be turned away. Just email the office from the Monday of the week you would like to book. If you cannot email then please contact the office by phone when the office is open, opening hours: Monday 9am to 3pm, Wednesday 10am to 2pm, Friday 9am to 3pm.

Please can we also remind you to just attend 1 Mass a week, so it keeps it fair for all. Sunday obligation is still suspended so you can attend a weekday Mass instead.

We have recalculated our numbers for seats at Mass and we have capacity for 38 parishioners attending on their own from separate households.

This of course can be much higher if we have family’s and couples from the same household/bubble.

To enable us to allocated benches correctly, to a maximum safe capacity, it is important that you book your places for Mass via email each week,

If you email in office hours (see above) you will get an immediate response to your booking, if you email outside of these times you will get a reply on the next day the office is open.

We know this is not how we all want this to be and lets all pray that soon things will change, and we can return to Church as we once did. We are all trying to do our best in this difficult and strange situation, so please respect the guidance of the stewards, above all, please be patient, we want to do the best we can to enable you to be at Mass again. so, be kind and understanding to us and to each other.

There will be no more private prayer on Tuesdays and Fridays, instead the Church will open half an hour before each Mass for private prayer.

Sunday: Church opens at 9.30am, Mass will Follow at 10.00am.

Tuesday: Church opens at 5.30pm, Mass will follow at 6.00pm.

Friday: Church opens at 11.30am, Mass follows at 12 noon.

From Sunday 11th October we will be adding in an extra Mass at 8.30am. We will monitor attendance.

Mass Times from 11th October

Sunday: 8.30 am Mass

10.00 am Mass

Tuesday: 6.00 pm Mass

A thanks to all those who already steward, but we are always looking for stewards for Mass, because without you we cannot open safely, so if you can help please contact the parish office at, [email protected]

BRIGID GANNON RIP

REQUIEM MASS

Brigid was known fondly to many of us as a friend and long standing parishioner of St Ann’s Church, and Adrian would like to invite parishioners to Bridgid’s requiem Mass on Friday 25th September at 12.30 pm and then following on to East Surrey crematorium at 2.00pm for the cremation.

As you all know sadly we are restricted to numbers at this time, so on behalf of the family we are asking those from the parish that would like to attend to contact the parish office, to reserve a seat, so we can monitor numbers. When you email could you also specify if you will be attending both the requiem Mass and crematorium or if it is just one, then which of these it would be.

A MESSAGE FROM FR JOHN

Recently one or two people have been concerned, about; 1, the low number of Masses and 2, about having to leave the Church after Communion instead of the normal way. Please be assured that everything we do is for your safety. We can only increase the Masses when there is reason to do so, and enough volunteers come forward to clean the Church afterwards.

Many of you will know Fr Peter, Fr Simon, and Fr Giandomenico, from St Dunstan’s parish, in Woking, which is the largest parish in the diocese. Regarding Communion, we are doing exactly the same as them, at the end of Mass. This is the safest way for us all.

ST ANN’S SVP CONFERENCE

September is an important month for the St Vincent de Paul Society. On the 8th, we

celebrate the feast of Blessed Frederic Ozanam, the founder of the Society and on the 27th, the feast of St Vincent de Paul.

The history and activities of St Ann’s SVP Conference are summarised in the SVP leaflet. What follows is an article about St Ann’s Conference published in the Vincentian Concern.

St Ann’s, Banstead celebrate their 55th anniversary Celebrations are for the SVP Conference of St Ann’s Parish, Banstead, who are commemorating their 55th Anniversary in 2020. Originally founded on 1st February 1965, its Certificate of Aggregation was signed two weeks later in Paris on16th February. The original certificate is now displayed in a prominent position in the St Ann’s room of the Parish where the Conference meet regularly. Alongside their regular community activities, the team have set themselves a challenge for 2020, namely, to provide breakfasts to a homeless shelter.

The Conference is also celebrating the strong link between the SVP adult members and the St Anne’s Catholic Primary School’s Mini Vinnies. Adult Conference members regularly support the Mini Vinnies and are committed to broadening their understanding of social justice, as well as working collaboratively on several community projects. Mini Vinnies have been instrumental in supporting a fundraising bake sale and can also be found carolling for local nursing homes with the adult Conference. Happy 55th Birthday to St Ann’s!

THE OPEN-DOOR CAFÉ

At this difficult time, we are attempting to re-open the Open-Door café in the high street. As the majority of our volunteers are elderly, we need some help to ensure that we can keep providing this vital service for those in our community who rely on the Open Door for fellowship and sometimes just for someone else to talk too.

Please contact Liz Grover on 01737 351304.
