War memorial(A series covering War Memorials across the country to remember our soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty)

Ganasok Battalions suffered a number of battle casualities during OP VIJAY from 08 June to 26 July 1999. To commemorate the achievements of these Battalions in this Sub Sector during OP VIJAY, a war memorial has been constructed.

This war memorial at Longewala was constructed in December 2002 and is dedicated to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during OP PArAkrAm (2001-2002).

in FoCuSPresiDent aWarDs PaDMa sHriHon’ble President of India, Shri ram Nath kovind presented Padma Shri to Sepoy murlikant rajaram Petkar, retired War Veteran of Victorious 1965 War on 20 march 2018, who later won Paralympic Gold medal in 50 meter free style swimming. He sustained grave injuries including multiple gunshot wounds, but unrelentlessly trained and achieved inspiring glory. Sepoy murlikant rajaram Petkar, reflects the ideals of Indian Army ‘To Be Winner Always’.

internationaL WoMen’s DaY On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Hon’ble raksha mantri, mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman graced an event organised by women in uniform of Armed Forces medical Services (AFmS) as Chief Guest to celebrate the spirit of ‘Womanhood’ at manekshaw Centre on 9 march 2018. During the event she addressed the gathering and highlighted the stellar role, power and potential of women in AFmS. raksha mantri also felicitated retired lady officers from AFmS.

eX KHanJar 2018Fifth Special Forces Joint Training ‘Exercise khanjar’ between Indian and kyrgyzstan Armies was held at Counter Insurgency Jungle Warfare School, Vairengte, mizoram from 16 march to 29 march 2018. Special Forces personnel from both nations participated in the exercise. Aim of the exercise was to practice joint planning & conduct of counter terrorist operations in semi urban terrain and encompass training on jungle warfare, jungle survival and special heliborne operations.

SniPPetSAnnual Army Seminar for 2017-18 on ‘Contribution of the Army Towards Nation Building’ was held on 01 mar 2018 at manekshaw Centre, New Delhi.The objective of the seminar was to highlight the contributions of the Indian Army towards Nation building and identify new spheres & areas for future participation. The welcome address was delivered by General Bipin rawat, COAS and the key Note address was given by Dr Subhash ramrao Bhamre, the Hon’ble raksha rajya mantri.

General Bipin rawat, COAS visited red Horns Division on 04 march 2018 and reviewed the internal security situation and inspected joint training node, a modern facility developed in Eastern theatre to train foreign armies. The node had hosted army delegations from Bangladesh and myanmar in the recent past wherein bilateral exercises were conducted.

An impressive closing ceremony was organised at Seychelles Defence Academy lle Perseverance mahe Seychelles during Indo-Seychelles Joint Exercise LAmITYE on 03 mar 2018. mementoes were exchanged between both contingents.

A mid career interaction between officers of Armed Forces & IAS / IPS was organised at HQ Uttar Bharat Area on 05 and 06 march 2018. Aim of interaction was to synergize functioning between military & civil services to meet unforeseen situations at short notice.

Lieutenant General Balwant Singh Negi, GOC-in-C Central Command felicitated the gallantry award winners, recipients of Unit Citations for exemplary performance and awarded Surya Trophies for attaining excellence as service providers in an impressive Ceremony organised at Jabalpur on 15 mar 2018.

Civil–military Liaison Conference chaired by Hon’ble Chief minister of UP, Shri Yogi Aditya Nath was held at Lucknow on 20 march 2018. Issues relating to soldiers welfare, defence land and infrastructure development in the state were delved upon and timelines were formulated for final resolution of these issues.

War memorial Girls & Boys Hostel was inaugurated by Shri Trivendra Singh rawat, the Hon’ble Chief minister of Uttarakhand at Dehradun on 18 march 2018. The 4.18 acres hostel is full of modern amenities for the wards of martyrs, Veer Naris, serving soldiers and ex-servicemen of Uttarakhand. The hostel will cater for boarding and lodging facilities for 125 boys and 125 girls. Former Chief minister of the State major General BC khanduri (retired), General Bipin rawat, Lieutenant General Sarath Chand were also present on the occasion alongwith other civil and military dignitaries.

South Western Command Investiture Ceremony for the award of ‘Unit Citations’ to units excelling in various fields was held at Jaipur on 20 march 2018. Fourteen Units were awarded the Citations by Lieutenant General Cherish mathson, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Command.

Haryana State Education Department has renamed the Government Senior Secondary Girls School at kosli as Saheed major Vikas Yadav Senior Secondary Girls School on 29 march 2018. major Vikas Yadav, Sm of 7th Battalion the Jat regiment, a native of kosli in rewari District fought gallantly against the militants in J&k and attained martyrdom.

A Veer Naris meet was organised at Government College, Hoshiarpur on 13 mar 2018 with the objective of resolving the grievances of Veer Naris of Hoshiarpur district. They were apprised about various welfare schemes undertaken by Army and Punjab Govt.

Veterans Empowerment rallies were organised at Darjeeling and Udaipur military Stations on 25 march 2018. War disabled soldiers were honoured by distribution of modified scooters, wheel chairs & other mobility equipment. The events witnessed felicitations of War Veterans & Veer Naaris and education grant for children of disabled soldiers. Grievance redressal of the Veterans was done through representatives of Army Placement Node, Central Pension Cell, PCDA Allahabad, record Offices and officials of Zila Sainik Board.

An Ex-servicemen rally was organised at Solan on 30 march 2018. Disabled Soldiers, Veer Naris & Widows were felicitated by providing modified Auto Scooters, Wheel Chairs and distribution of various grants. The event also showcased ECHS awareness & pension related grievance redressal.

A Veterans rally was organised at rohtak on 25 February 2018. 31 specially modified scooters, one motorized wheel chair, 20 wheel chairs and various grants were distributed to the disabled veterans. The Veer Naris and War Widows were also felicitated.

The Sikh Light Infantry regimental Center organised a ‘Veterans & Veer Naris Welfare and medical Camp’ at kannauj on 28 march 2018 which was attended by 135 Veer Naris and 1250 Veterans. The rally also acted as a platform for grievance redressal of Ex Servicemen which were put forth in front of the Civil Administration.

rashtriya rifles Battalion under the aegis of Dagger Division organised a mega medical Camp in Baramulla, on 19 march 2018. medical team treated more than 1100 patients from various neighbouring villages. Some special cases were also referred to military Hospital for specialised treatment. Indian Army distributed wheel chairs & crutches during the medical Camp.

Indian Army rescued 680 people including locals and tourists in 320 vehicles who were stuck in sub zero temperature on 12 march 2018 in an unexpected heavy snowfall near Sela Pass in Arunachal Pradesh. Three teams of Indian Army worked relentlessly till the last person and vehicle were brought to safety.

Army avalanche rescue team from rashtriya rifles Battalion recovered the mortal remains of three hunters, who had gone to Lashkut forest area of Dardpora, Lolab in North kashmir’s kupwara district for hunting after the avalanche struck them on 07 march 2018.

A Veterans rally was organized by Black Cat Division at Pedong in kalimpong District on 18 march 2018 in which various facilities to include medical Camp, registration for Aadhaar, Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme and provision of CSD were established. Veterans, Veer Naris, Veer matas, widows and disabled soldiers were felicitated during the rally.

‘Project kashmir Super 30 (medical)’ has been conceptualized under Chinar Corps to secure a better future for kashmiri youth. It is a full time residential programme to coach & guide them for a period of twelve months for entrance examinations of various medical Colleges spread across the country. An moU has been signed with corporate partner Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and training partner National Integrity and Educational Development Organisation.

White Tiger Division conducted the Chindits Trail Expedition in inhospitable hilly & jungle terrain of Central India from 17 February to 09 march 2018. The

expedition commemorated 75 years of the training of the Chindits carried out in this region under the legendary General Charles Orde Wingate in 1943. The expedition covered more than 500 kms on foot, self contained with individual battle loads of 25-30 kgs over a period of 21 days.

Ocean Sailing Expedition from mumbai to minicoy (Lakshadweep) and back was flagged off on 06 march 2018 from Army Adventure Nodal Centre, marve. A total of 18 officers, 03 junior commissioned officers and 14 other ranks are participating in the expedition.

Team of ‘EmE Ultra run’ established a new National record of running 50 consecutive half marathons in India Book of records by running 1055 kms from 01 February to 22 march 2018. Lieutenant General Sarath Chand, Vice Chief of Army Staff flagged in the team and conveyed his felicitation. Aim of the run was to spread the message of ‘Healthy, Clean, Green and Pollution Free Happy India’ amongst the masses through conduct of yoga sessions after termination of each half marathon at various schools / colleges / institutions in NCr. This run is one of the events being organized to celebrate Platinum Jubilee by the Corps of EmE this year.

12 member team of ‘Amogh Sappers’ embarked on a Desert Cycling Expedition from Bikaner to Sriganganagar from 10 march to 21 march 2018. Covering the distance of 475 kms, the team not only displayed its stout heartedness, but also reached out to the fellow countrymen, along the way, motivating youth to join the Indian Army.

Air Defence Brigade undertook ‘A Soldier’s Pilgrimage across konark Corps’, a daunting Cycling expedition to eight prominent battlefields in rajasthan from 10-31 march 2018. The team comprising of ten cyclists covered a distance of 2200 kms from Jodhpur through eight major battlefields of rajasthan.

It’s a ‘Premier AWWA Venture’ established in 1991 with a noble welfare cause of providing boarding and lodging facility for college going girls of all ranks of Army (serving & retired) whose parents are not staying in or are posted out of Delhi. It accommodates 200 plus residents and has earned the status of being one of the best girls hostels in Delhi / NCr for discipline, security, academic excellence, facilities & care. It provides free AWWA hostel bus to all the colleges of North & South Campus and other colleges enroute within Delhi / NCr.

eLiGiBiLitY For tHe HosteL

(a) Accommodation in this Hostel is open for dependents (unmarried non-working daughters) of serving and retired all ranks of the Army (except those posted in Delhi) as well as to the daughters of war widows. Preference will be given to daughters of Army personnel posted out of Delhi / NCr during the session against vacant seats on first come first serve basis. It is open for under graduate and post graduate students seeking admission in regular colleges under Universities located in Delhi and other Colleges and courses, preparatory courses for competitive exams e.g. PmT, IIT, EEE, mAT, Civil Services Exam (full time course) in coaching centres of Delhi/NCr.

(b) Admission is strictly on first come first serve basis. With college / institute fee pay slip as proof of admission.

(c) Working and married girls are not eligible for admission to the Hostel.

(d) Eligible candidates can do advance registration. Advance registration helps the administration in assessing the likely No of students in a session and is not to be taken as a guarantee for seat unless prospective candidate gets admission in a college ahead of others.

(e) The dependents of Air Force and Navy personnel may also apply for admission to the Hostel. Their names will be considered subject to availability of vacancies.

(f ) First preference will be given to those seeking admission for one year. Applicants for six months duration will be considered only for remaining / vacant seats.
