SILIBUS ON THIS SEMESTER FOR C 2001

1.0 SITE INVESTIGATION AND PREPARATION

Preliminary site survey, soil investigation , site preparation, drainage,cuttings, fillings and planning of site.

2.0 FOUNDATION

Definition and functions of foundation, shallow and deep foundations,

pile foundation, types and functions of piles, friction piles, end bearingpiles, usage of piles, equipment and machinery used in driving piles.

3.0 TEMPORARY WORK

Planking and shoring, scaffolding, strut, support and formwork.

4.0 MACHINERY EQUIPMENT

Machinery and equipment used in Civil Engineering works.

5.0 SITE SUPERVISION AND ORGANISATION

Planning of site works and duties of technician at construction.

SITE SURVEY

1. Location : Can identify from which direction the sun rises at dawn.

It is important to make sure that each space in the building

gets enough sunlight.

2. Scenery : A beautiful scenery is well lined by all and guarantees good

market

3. Climatic Factor : The site must be void of draught during rainy season.

Avoid from choosing locations which are near the

river.

- Important task to do before construction work begin- This means, before starting these following information must be considered:

4. Public Facilities : Such as water, electricity and telecommunication.Besides that, transportation, education, shopping,

medical

care and recreational facilities are provided.

5. Subsoil History : Make sure that the ( site base ) is from subsoil and not from

any former paddy field or soft soil where dump is gathered.

6. Mining area and airports : Avoid mining area and airports because the noise

and vibration might cause disturbances.

Introduction : Is a precaution step in the construction,

without soil investigation can caused cracks at the column, slaband settlement.

Objectives:

1. To obtain information regarding condition of soil at any location andthe soil profile.

2. To obtain the structure, thickness and strength of each strata of soilincluding types of soil.

3. To obtain types and depth of benchmark and to find the location,arrangement, thickness, and hardness of benchmark of each strata.

4. To obtain in ground water level as well as internal water pressure.

5. To obtain characteristic of soil from testing.

NEXT STEP TO CARRY OUT SITE INVESTIGATION

1. To decide type soils of each layer

2. To decide ground water level because in order that design are

suitable for type of foundation.

3. To execute surveying works in order to obtain detail information of ground

profile and ground level.

4. To communicate with the authorities and public agencies for providing

public facilities, such as water and electric utilities. Therefore this facilities

can be installed right after the building has been completed.
