Maintaining a strong commitment to sourcing its raw materials sustainably, Bacardi Limited is a founding member of Bonsucro, formerly known as the Better Sugarcane Initiative. The organization works to improve sustainability in the sugarcane industry through higher social, agricultural, and environmental standards.

Actively involved with Bonsucro since its inception in 2007, Bacardi's involvement with the group has shaped the spirits company's policies around sugarcane production.

The company has publicly stated its long-term goals and now strives to source 40% of sugarcane-derived products from certified, sustainable sources by 2017, and 100% by 2022.

Understanding the importance of third-party certification, Bacardi and other organizations work with Bonsucro to set the standards.

As of last year, 30 sugar mills, all in Brazil,

have earned certification from Bonsucro.

This number represents less than 3% of

total global sugarcane production. With

the help of Bacardi and other members,

the organization hopes to expand this

number to 20% by 2017.
