    RN Climate

Semi-arid climate, because of erratic rains and high temperatures all year round.

The average monthly temperatures range between 26 and 28 C, with a minimum of

21.1 C in August and the maximum around 34 C, from September to November. There are two seasons: a dry and a rainy season, the largest amount of rain

between February to May, also with higher relative humidity, averaging 78% to 61%.

In the coastal environment of RN predominate beaches with Beachrocks, cliffs, dunes,

restingas, estuaries, mangroves, lagoons and groundwater ponds.

The largest areas of mangroves and apicuns of the region are found in the mouths of

rivers Apodi-Mossor (Areia Branca / RN) and Piranhas-Au (Macau / RN).

In relation to the biota of the region, in the mangroves, the mangrove crab, the mullet and the

blue land crab are predominant. In the marine environment, fish diversity is quite high and

species are found such as sardines, Vermillion snapper, Yellowtail snapper, Salminus, albacore

(or tuna) and flying fish, as well as rays and sharks. There is also the presence of crustaceans

(lobsters and shrimps) and mollusks (octopus).

We can also highlight the presence of cetaceans (whales, porpoises and dolphins), the most

common being the sotalia, the tucuxi dolphin and rough-toothed dolphin and mammals like the

    manatee.

Regarding chelonians, according to the Center for Sea Turtles/ IBAMA, the coastal area

between Guamar / RN and Icapu / CE can be taken as a reproduction area of somespecies of turtles in the period from September to April.

The birds use the estuarine areas of the region to nest. Collared plovers, grey-headed gull

and Brown Noddy occur in the region.

    CONSERVATION UNITS

The Conservation Unit closest to the activity is the State

Sustainable Development Reserve of Ponta do Tubaro in Guamar

and Macau, Rio Grande do Norte.

In fishing the main interference of the oil activity, are excluded areas of production

platforms and vessel traffic in support of E&P activity. However, these interferences

generate a insignificant impact on fishing activity, considering the great fishing area used by

    the artisanal fleet.
