It’s hard to believe, but summer is winding down and school is about to begin. Please remember to watch out for school buses and kids as the new school year kicks off bright and early on Monday morning, August 10th. The late summer and early fall are absolutely my favorite weather months of the year, so I hope we have one of those long Indian Summers leading to an even longer fall. Winter can wait…

On a personal note, I want to take the opportunity to use the "Publisher's Note" to thank Mark and Amy Ware for their dedication to helping support Judi's House. Mark works long hours behind the scenes to put on this benefit concert and I am honored to come alongside him and provide this venue to help promote it as well.

The Benefit Concert for Judi's House is Friday, September 1st, at the Soiled Dove Underground (7401 E. 1st Ave, Denver). The fea-tured band is none other than Vintage Trouble. VT has toured the world many times over with some amazing bands, and you can hear the closeness of the musicians in every song. The undoubt-ed front man of the band is the amazing Ty Taylor with vocal “chops” and a stage presence that harkens back to the showman-ship of R&B greats such as James Brown, Wilson Pickett, and Otis Redding.

Seeing VT in such intimate venue will be something special. Sure they can blow the large festival audiences away, but these guys are true, old school performers that don't depend on the glitz and glamour of blown-out production budgets. No fancy lights, no pyro, dancers or pre-recorded samples, just five debonair gentle-men draped in stylish suits picking up the blues, soul and rock 'n'

roll from where it left off over five decades ago. But while these guys may be bringing the retro style back to the mainstage, they aren't stuck in the past. The New York Times noted, “Like Otis Redding, Vintage Trouble makes music that is a little bit of every-thing…you can slow dance, groove, rock and let it all go. For more information about the benefit concert and the amazing ticket packages available please visit: vt.ticketleap.com/jh

I’d also like to personally thank all of our business sponsors who are partnering with us making the magazine free to all residents. These businesses are the ones who really deserve to be thanked, and the best way to do that is by patronizing them with your busi-ness. So please think of them when the need for their product or service comes up and refer them to your friends! Last but not least, I want to thank the many residents who’ve contributed con-tent. Gathering interesting, fun, material is an ongoing challenge, so any and all help I can get is much appreciated! Our Content Advisory Team (CAT) as well as our publication coordinator, Andrea Bobo, really make it so easy to gather interesting and rel-evant content. Please continue to call or email them with any and all ideas you may have. Remember, Back Country Views is your community magazine and would not exist without your input. So, please keep it coming in…

Warm regards,

smashed worldwide charts, hitting No. 2 on the iTunes Rock Album Chart, No. 14 on the UK Album Charts, and the single ‘Strike your Light’ reached No. 1 in Japan. Vintage Trouble performs to sold out shows worldwide, as well as at numerous festivals such as Coachella and SXSW. To have Vintage Trouble play such an intimate venue as the Soiled Dove Underground (350 capacity) to benefit such a wonderful organization is amazing.

Brian and Brook Griese have dedicated their lives to Judi’s House, and I encourage Backcountry residents to learn more by visiting www.judishouse.org. If you ever have the opportunity to get a tour with Brian or Brook, you will be blown away by their passion, dedication, sincerity, and candor in their mission. So don’t miss the opportunity to experience the power and soul of one of the hottest bands on the planet as they tear up the stage in support of Judi’s House at Denver's most intimate concert venue. Imagine James Brown singing lead for Led Zeppelin, and you'll get an idea of Vintage Trouble's muscular, in-the-pocket sound. The best part of the show? One hundred percent of all ticket sales and funds raised will be donated to Judi's House ... 100%. In fact, all the expenses associated with the production of this concert are being paid by the Title Sponsors to ensure that 100% of your money goes to Judi’s House! I hope to see many of my Back Country neighbors at the show. You won’t regret it. To purchase tickets and obtain additional information please visit: vt.ticketleap.com/jh

For 53 years I have been blessed to have my parents and siblings by my side, and cannot imagine navigating the turbulence of life without their love and support. Unfortunately, every day in the Denver Metro area countless children lose a parent, sibling, or caregiver, and struggle adjusting to such a dramatic life chang-ing event. Processing such grief is challenging for anyone, but for children, it can significantly alter their development. Last year a close friend of our family passed away, leaving a beautiful wife, a 5-year-old son, and a 4-year-old daughter to deal with this unexpected and tragic loss. Fortunately, since that time, they have been benefitting and healing from the unique programs and individualized services at Judi’s House. In fact, our friend’s widow recently told me, “Judi’s House saved me and the kids … without them, I don’t know where would be today.” My family first became aware of Judi’s House five years ago after the suicide of a teammate of our oldest son. The staff at Judi’s House was instrumental in helping their entire family, as well as providing them with the opportunity to grieve with oth-er families experiencing the same trauma and sadness caused by a suicide. The mission of Judi’s House is to help children and families grieving the death of a loved one find connection and healing. It is the only free-standing organization in the Denver

Metro area devoted solely to supporting grieving children and their families with research-based care. Since its inception in 2002, Judi’s House has supported more than 8,500 children, ages 3-25, and their caregivers. Judi’s House was founded by former NFL quarterback Brian Griese and his wife Brook, a clinical psychologist specializing in childhood trauma and loss. When Brian was 12 years old his mother Judi passed away after a five-year battle with breast cancer. Following the loss of his mom, Brian found himself struggling with his anger and profound sadness. Along Brian’s path to healing, he realized that he wanted to give back to children and teens who were also grieving the loss of a parent, sibling, or other loved one. Walking into Judi’s House you immediately realize it is truly a home -- warm, inviting, and filled with love. Art, quilts, and other items hang on nearly every wall, expressing the journey every child and family member has gone through during their healing process. Unlike other healthcare facilities, Judi’s House is not a sterile environment. During a tour of Judi’s House, Brian explained to me that he and Brook were adamant that Judi’s House be significantly different than what he experienced as a child. Brian elaborated, “The facility where I received counseling made me feel like I did something wrong or that there was something wrong

with me, while talking to a counselor that had never experienced the loss of a loved one … so how could that help?” Brian and Brook created Judi’s House to be a safe and comfortable environment where children and families receive compassionate support and connection with peers. One of the most unique aspects of Judi’s House

is that children and their families attend together, and work in groups that have experienced similar tragedies. Parents meet separately while their children are in different areas of the home supported by one of the experienced and trained counselors. There are designated areas where children can create with figurines a world that resembles their own, put on a play us-ing a closet full of wardrobes or a puppet show to express their feelings, and even an area where a child is encouraged to express their anger without the fear of breaking something or being scolded. Brian noted, “Every child expresses grief differently and we want to provide them with an environment where it’s safe.” He also mentioned that “Judi’s House is designed to help children in conjunction with their caregivers as an entire family unit.” Most importantly, thanks to the generosity of donors and cor-porate sponsors, there is no cost to families participating in the programs. Realizing how instrumental Judi’s House has been for several family friends, I decided to channel my energy into mak-ing a difference by producing a benefit concert for Judi’s House. Although I have a full-time job in the financial sector, music has been a passion and hobby of mine for decades. Since January I have been working diligently on this benefit concert, in addition I've recently produced several amazing concerts with world-class musicians and bands. The backstory is amazing, especially after being told “no” three times by the band’s Hollywood-based high pro-file management firm. But I would not take “no” for an answer and have lined up one of my favorite bands, Vintage Trouble, to perform on Friday, September 1 at the Soiled Dove Underground in Lowry. Vintage Trouble has performed on the Late Show with David Letter-man, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Conan, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and Later…with Jools Holland. They have toured the world with Bon Jovi, The Rolling Stones and The Who. Their blistering performance on Later… with Jools Holland blew up Twitter as the sixth most tweeted topic world-wide just hours after it aired. The very next day, Vintage Trouble's self-released debut, The Bomb Shelter Sessions (2012), entered the charts as the No. 1 R&B Album, No. 2 Rock Album, and No. 13 on iTunes, and earned praise from NPR, Rolling Stone magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and Billboard. After touring with AC/DC in 2015, the release of Vintage Trouble’s second album, 1 Hopeful Rd.,
