Compared to elementary, there are much more different varieties of classes. Obviously, there will be classes that we really like, and others that we don’t really like, right? So what is your favourite subject?“ Actually I think I like all the classes, but I think computer science is my favourite subject. Because there is no computer science in elementary school, so I think it is new to me. Also Chinese and Spanish, we don’t have it in elementary school, so it’s new,” says Sawa, who has been in HIS for 3 years now.“My favourite subject is um...(thinking)...PE! Because I like running which will help raise my stamina for gain my stamina for soccer,” says Yotaro.

Q: What are your goals this year?

One Thing You Like? What is one thing you like about secondary? “I like a lot of different varieties of classes,” says Allen, who just started his first year at HIS. “I don’t need to go with everyone, like in elementary, we all have to wit for others to finish their lunch before we leave. I also think we have more free time,” says Sawa.

Q: Favorite Subject?!

A: School had already started for a couple of weeks now, and many people are probably enjoying their time at school, while others might be wishing that it was still summer vacation. As for the seventh graders, it seems like they are really enjoying their time in secondary. “I like secondary because it is very different from elementary. It’s like I feel more free in secondary. For example we don’t have to line up after lunch to go out and play (laugh),” says Yotaro who has been in HIS for a year now. “I like secondary because we have more freedom than elementary school (laugh). And it is fun to go to different classrooms for different classes (laugh),” says Emily who has been in HIS since pre-k. Well, it’s pretty clear that the seventh graders are really enjoying this new sense of freedom in secondary. Well, let’s be honest here, who doesn’t?

Q: Enjoying School So Far?

Summer has passed in a blink of an eye, and it’s now back to school time! It is the beginning of another new semester, and a new fresh start, especially for the seventh graders who recently just joined secondary. Remember the time when you started seventh grade and you were like, twelve years old? Remember feeling so nervous since everything was so different from elementary? Now, let’s take a look at what our seventh graders Sawa, Emily, Yotaro, and Allen feel about starting Middle School!

Back to School- Interview With the Seventh Graders!

Setting a goal for school is definitely important...what are you goals for this year? “I think I want to speak more english, and improve my grammar,” says Sawa. “My goal for this year is to have good grades and improve on my grammar skills,” says Emily.“My goal is to improve on my communication skills (especially english), make many friends in the secondary department as well as keeping my grades high,” says Yotaro!“Get 100 on all my test!,” says Allen.

As September comes to an end, that can only mean that fall is just around the corner. When the weather starts to drop, it doesn’t mean that you can’t still look cute under all those knits and scarves. By listing out a few major trends to sport this fall, you won’t ever have to be late for your #ootd again!

Flat Black Boots Flat black boots are staple pieces to have in your closet. It offers a large versatility that allows you to pair those shoes in any you want it to!

FALL TRENDS 2015

Chunky Sweaters - Turtlenecks

Thick, turtleneck sweaters are especially trendy this fall, but any kind of sweater will do the job. Layering thick sweaters over skinny jeans or boyfriend jeans will achieve a casual and laidback look. However, if you don’t like jeans, try tucking a sweater inside a high-waisted pencil skirt for a more put-together look!

Plaid Overall Shirts, skirts, pants, jackets, hats, boots, bags - all plaid is good plaid. Don’t limit yourself to wear a single plaid piece at a time - treat it as a neutral piece and add more versatile patterns into your outfit, or even more plaid for a more fashion-forward look.

Statement Earrings The real statement is not on how large or how embellished your earrings are, but rather the idea of asymmetry in your earrings. Instead of wearing two bold pieces on either sides of your face, try wearing one statement earring on one side with a stud on the other.

Mini Skirts This year’s Fashion Week that was held in New York, and mini skirts were all over the runway. Pencil skirts can boost the formality of your outfit automatically.

Flares This nostalgic 90’s trend is back this fall. However, not everyone is able to pull it off. The trick of styling flared pants is to stick with high-waisted flares and accentuate the waist through crop-tops or just tucking in your shirt.

! It’s September! It’s the time when everything approaches to you. You can feel fall coming with the temperature outside getting lower, and the wind that blows past your body in the morning. However, in such amazing weather condition, tons of stress from school also is approaching to us. Therefore, September is also the time when all the students, including you, should get organized, and here are some ways for you to become organized and to achieve your goals of the year! Different Folders for Different Subjects

! Notebooks

BACK TO SCHOOL - !! WAYS TO BE ORGANIZED

Having several folders prepared in your backpack is the first step of being organized for school. How many students in the student body are actually using different folders for different subjects? Most of you are way too lazy to get every of your worksheet categorized by subjects, instead, you mostly just shove them all into a big binder or folder right after you got them from the teacher, right? However, this makes difficult for you to find the right worksheet or document when you need them. Therefore, having “Different Folders for Different Subjects” is very important! You can put each of the mandatory subjects (or the subject that you get more worksheets on) as an individual folder. The rest, which are the subjects with less worksheets, can be in one folder all together.

Same as the concepts of “Different Folders for Different Subjects,” you will also need different notebooks for different subjects! By research, hand-writing is found to be effective on better memorizing. However, even if you handwrite your notes to try to have better memory, if you can’t keep the notes neat and organized, it would be hard for you to understand when you pick it up to study. Having different notebooks for different subjects helps you better organized your notes, and makes it easier for you to find where your notes are. You can even get a binder to put them in order. On the other hand, in HIS there are also some people who prefer more on taking notes on the laptop instead of handwriting them. That’s alright. You can still categorize your notes by subjects on your computer! If you keep your notes organized, your school life will be organized.

! Get a planner + Sticky Notes

Do Homework AS SOON AS You Get It !!!!!!!!!!!! Clean out your desk once a while and make sure it’s organized

In secondary, having a planner is incredibly important and helpful for you to get organized. You can write down your homework, tests dates, or other schedules out of school. As you get older, you have more and more homework and tests that requires a lot of brain storage if you tries to memorize them all. In this case, having a planner will make your life so much easier! All you need to do is just writing down the homework that assigned by your teacher at the end of the class. You can either get a planner from the bookstore/stationery or make one by yourself! To make your own planner, first get a notebook. It’s better to get one with trial bound and folder inside, so you can put important papers or other things in it. Have your name written one the first page, and label each page by days of the week or the calendar date of the month. After that, you can start tracking down the work you have for the day. For what you have on the planner, write down the same things on a sticky note, so you can cross out the homework that you’ve done with after you finished. For other schedules such as after school activities and special events, you can have those categorized in other sections. Make sure you have your labels clear on the side or the top of the planner. Get a planner and save your brain storage!

The higher grade you are, the quantity of homework increases. In order to have enough sleep as teenagers, stepping away from procrastination is essential. Once you get your homework, never wait until the night before the due date. Instead, you should “Start Your Homework AS SOON AS you Get It!” After doing this for awhile, you’ll find out that you saved a lot of time for other homework and your sleep.

! Is your desk always messy and disorganized with lots of useless random items? A cluttered desk will lower your productivity because you won’t be able to find what you need in time. To have your desk organized, get a few storage box (in all sizes) to categorized the items with your need. After reading this article, do you get a few ideas about being organized for this school year? If you have not tried those, try some out to make your life easier for this challenged school year!

Good news, It’s September! Fear not, school is back! We all have mixed feeling towards going back to school. At one side you have this excitement to meet your friends, but also the nervousness for the new year and the laziness to get up early in the morning. But one thing that always keeps me thrilled is to see some new faces in HIS. This year, there are total of four new teachers that joined our community at HIS. I interviewed Ms. Kelsey Syers with peculiar questions to know more about her from another angle. !Q: Before coming to HIS, where were you and what were you doing? A: I was actually teaching in America and I taught science, social studies and ESL for 6th 7th and 8th grade. So, a little bit different but i did learn a lot about teaching different subjects and teaching different age levels and comprehension levels. !Q: Do you have a favorite subject to teach? A: It is very hard to choose.. I like different aspects of teaching for me. I like doing LA but i like bringing in science and social studies into LA. Sci-fi is probably one of my favourite things, I think it is very interesting to teach and very relevant . !Q: Do you have a favorite Sci-fi movie? A: There is a couple that I really like...I like star wars, the original movies. They are really cheesy but a lot of fun (laughs). And I also like Osamu Tezuka’s “Metropolis”, it is very dated

looking but it’s actually pretty fascinating. !Q: Osamu Tezuka was a Japanese cartoonist, do you read or watch any or his manga or anime? A: Yes, I just started “Blackjack”. It is a very fascinating series. And if i remember correctly, Osamu Tezuka had some experience as a doctor and he based his experience, part of it to his work. !Q: Do you read manga in English? A: Since I got to China, I only read in Chinese. I read fair enough to comprehend magazines and comics. So in terms of like magazines, books and comics, I make myself read in Chinese. On the internet I will let myself read in English but everything else in Chinese. !Q: But unlike Chinese simplified Chinese, Taiwan uses traditional chinese characters so do you have any difficulties understanding those characters? A: Obviously, something very technical or super science fiction is very challenging to read, but others I can comprehend about eighty percent. !Q: Who is your celebrity crush? Why? A: I think was the “Attack on Titan” live action movie characters. The characters themselves were okay but the people they picked were very pleasing to the eye, pretty to look at. I thought the people they picked were quite attractive.Titans themselves

were probably one of the best parts of the movie, they were actually frightening and realistic. I will pick my “crush” from those characters... I don’t remember which one i like the best but probably one of the guys from there because they were very aesthetically pleasing (laugh). !Q: “You are what you eat”, what are you? A: If i am what i eat, i would say i probably am… well honestly I kind of have my staple food, i eat oatmeal everyday, i drink chocolate milk, i also love this pork and egg sandwich place near my apartment place, so i might be a combination of those three things !Q: Do you have any memory regarding the season fall/autumn? A: Fall is actually my favorite season, I remember jumping in leaves as a kid in America. In Georgia where I live is kind of rural, forest, lots of land so you get a lot of leaves. I also like pumpkin, I love pumpkin pie, i don’t make it but my grandma use to make a pumpkin pie..

School started for a month already and many students are already in despair. Whichever grade you are in, you must experience an increase in workload and pressure. After two months of summer, are you all ready to get back to school and work for another year? No one will ever be ready for all the sleep deprivation and constant stress; however, there are some things that are essential for school. Honestly, a billion things can go wrong this year, there is no doubt of it. The items listed below aren’t simply school supplies, but things that will help you when you need to put your life back on track.

SURVIVAL KIT OF SCHOOL YEAR 2015

A NOTEBOOK to write all your miseries:

There is no easier way of going through it all. The only thing you can do is to make it through the year without dying. A notebook might just be your perfect trash can that you can toss all of your misfortunes in. A billion things can go wrong in this year, and the best solution is to release your anger on a piece of paper, rather than anybody else, and get past it. It might even be a nice thing to look at a few years later to have a laugh about the many things that you stressed over then.

A STAPLER to repair your life with:

A stapler is required to staple your life back together when it’s all falling apart. Family issues, drama with your friends, failing in school or too much homework are all common problems that a normal teenager will experience in their teenage years. When everything around you is crumbling down, what could you do? Sometimes a stapler or tape can be friends, a family member, a treat or simply just some time off school. To put your life back on track, you have to take a step back and let yourself breathe, relax and get reorganized. Recharge your energy like you need to recharge your phone. After you treat yourself, get ready to work your butt off again!

Whether you like it or not, it’s high school. Every single year there will be new people, new events, and last, but definitely not the least, new drama. The best way to deal with stupidity and drama is to not deal with it at all. It is similar to formulas in math, follow the rule and you will get the right answer. In other words, follow the rule “don’t get involved” and you will have a peaceful school year.

A CALCULATOR to calculate the stupidity of drama in your class:

A BACKPACK to carry the weight of all you problems:

There are so many problems with your teenage life, how can you carry it all? Put it in a backpack! There’s always going to be problems in your life. Problems in life are comparable to homework that students receive. When there are too much problems in your life, toss it behind you and “do it later,” or in other words, “never.” Always remember to keep your problems in your folder so you won’t lose them. After you finish dealing with a problem, put it in your bag and let it get lost in the black hole inside your bag, like all your previous assignments, and never look at it ever again. At the last day of school, put them all in a recycling bin and let it start over next year.
