How to register for access

1. To register for Backflow Online go to sydneywater.com.au > Plumbing, building

& developing > Plumbing > Backflow prevention

2. Select 'Register for a Backflow web lodgement account'.

3. Enter your details in the boxes provided.

4. You will see a confirmation screen.

5. We will send you an email with your login details as soon as the system grants you access. You will need to change the password on your first login.

How to access the web lodgement system

1. To access web lodgement, go to sydneywater.com.au, navigate to backflow prevention and select ‘Submit a backflow test report’.

2. Enter your log in details (your user name is your license number) and click ‘OK”.

What to do if you forget your password

1. Go to sydneywater.com.au and navigate to Backflow prevention

2. Select Re-set your backflow online password.

3. Enter your username (which is your license number).and the email address you signed up with.

4. We will send you an email with a temporary password.

How to update your My Profile details

1. The web lodgement system allows you to update your profile at any time.

2. After accessing the web lodgement system select 'My Profile'.

3. Update your personal details.

4. Click ‘Save Profile’ to save your updated details.

Note: if your licence number changes, you will need to register for a new account

Introduction to web lodgement

When lodging reports, you now need to select upfront whether you’re lodging a report for:

a Sydney Water meter

boundary connections

fire services

standpipes.

Once you make this selection, you can then:

test an existing device

register a new device

replace a device.

How to submit an annual test report for a registered device

1. After accessing the web lodgement system, select ‘Submit a Report’

2. Enter the property number

3. Enter the contact details, and select which connection the device is protecting. (Eg – if the containment device you tested was located on a Sydney Water meter, then select ‘I’m lodging a containment test report for: a Sydney Water Meter’)

4. Now select the meter, from the list of meters attached to a property. If the meter isn’t listed, check you’ve got the right account number and that the meter is registered.

5. Once you select a Sydney Water meter, you then need to select the device you’re reporting on. If the device is registered, you can just select it from the list and then select ‘Next’.

7. Select ‘Next’

8. Check the details you entered and select ‘Preview’

9. Scroll to the bottom of the draft receipt and select ‘Submit Test Report’

10. Print a copy of the report and note the receipt number on screen. You can also choose to submit another containment test report.

How to submit a test report for an unregistered device

1. After accessing the web lodgement system, select ‘Submit a Report’

Do not submit reports for zone or individual devices. Containment

devices only.

2. Enter the property number

3. Enter the contact details, and select which connection the device is protecting. (Eg – if the containment device you tested was located on a Sydney Water

meter, then select ‘I’m lodging a containment test report for: a Sydney Water Meter’).

4. Now select the meter, from the list of meters attached to a property. If the meter isn’t listed, check you’ve got the right account number and that the meter is registered.

5. If you select a Sydney Water meter and the device you tested isn’t registered in the list of devices, you will need to register it. Select ‘Register new containment device’.

If we already have a device on record for the meter/boundary, you need to advise if the device you have tested is in a manifold set up (two or more containment devices installed together), or if it is a replacement device.

If the device you tested was not in a manifold set up, then please select ‘replacement device’.

Ensure you select the right meter before registering any new device.

6. If you see devices registered that are no longer on site, you can remove them.

7. To remove a device from the records, please select the devices to be removed, and press ‘Select’

8. The device will move to the ‘Device/s to be removed’ box.

9. You can then enter the new devices details to register the device.

10. Enter the test results and select ‘Next’

11. Verify the details you entered are correct and select ‘Preview’

How to register a new fire service

1. After accessing the web lodgement system, select ‘Submit a Report’

2. Enter the property number

3. If you tested a device on a fire service connection, then select ‘a Fire service (sprinkler/hydrant)’

4. If you see the message ‘There is no fire service connection registered on this account’ that means we have not yet been notified of a fire service on this account. You can register a fire service connection.

5. Select the connection size

6. Enter the device details – if the device is a double check detector assembly (used to monitor unauthorised water use from fire hydrants and sprinkler systems), then just register the serial number of the larger device.

7. Enter the test results

8. Verify the information is correct, then select ‘Preview’.

9. Submit the test report.

How to submit an annual test report for a device on a fire service

1. After accessing the web lodgement system, select ‘Submit a Report’

2. Enter the property number

3. If you tested a device on a fire service connection, then select ‘a Fire service (sprinkler/hydrant)’

4. If you see the message ‘There is 1 (or more) fire service connection registered on this account.’, you can choose to test the devices we have registered.

5. Select the device, and select ‘Next’ to continue

How to register a new fire service if one already exists

1. After accessing the web lodgement system, select ‘Submit a Report’

2. Enter the property number

3. If you tested a device on a fire service connection, then select ‘a Fire service (sprinkler/hydrant)’

4. Note the message:

‘There is 1 (or more) fire service connection registered on this account.’

If the number of fire service connections is not valid (for example if there are two fire connections to a site, but Sydney Water only has one fire service connection) you can register a new fire service connection and device.

5. Select ‘Register new containment device’

How to submit a report if the backflow device is before/ upstream of Sydney Water meters

If there is no Sydney Water meter on site, or the backflow device is located before/upstream of the Sydney Water meters on site, we call the connection a ‘boundary connection’

1. After accessing the web lodgement system, select ‘Submit a Report’

2. Enter the property number

3. If you tested a device on a ‘boundary connection’, then select ‘boundary connection’

4. Note the message:

‘By choosing a boundary connection, you are advising the backflow device is before/upstream of the Sydney Water meters on site.’

5. Select the connection size, and then add the device details.

How to submit a rectification report

If we audit a customer site and find something incorrect with the installation of a backflow device, we will send the customer a defect notice.

This notice explains the problem with the installation, and advises that once the defect is fixed, the customer must submit a non-compliance rectification form to us.

1. After accessing the web lodgement system, select ‘Submit a Report’

2. Enter the property number and select ‘Non-compliance rectification report’

3. Enter the rectification details, and date of rectification.

4. Submit the report.
