High Performance Buildings
• High Performance Buildings require Building Automation Systems
• To enable up to 30% energy savings
• To do this Sensors are required e.g. – Occupancy
– Lighting levels
– Temperature / Humidity / CO2
– Door / Window Status

Wireless Transmission Considerations
• Frequency
– use license free-band.
• Range
– lower frequency, longer range.
– ensure receiver within safe range.
– take attenuators/angles into account
• Attenuators
– metal & concrete absorb/block most signals
– other materials reduce signal range

Problems when using Batteries
• Using batteries does result in
– maintenance
– Stocking of batteries
– Monitoring battery status
– Time /labout to replace batteries
– Waste disposal
Battery failure = sensor failure XThermokon Sensortechnik GmbH | Frank Neudecker

BACnet – EnOcean Alliance Cooperation
“The task at hand is to define common implementation rules for an EnOcean/BACnet gateway,” said Dave Robin, Chairman of the BACnet Technical Working Group. “This will entail a number of issues, including specifying the network topology and the BACnet/EnOcean objectives needed to define a single model so that all implementations will be interoperable.”
“The world has evolved towards a wired and wireless infrastructure, and it is a significant step to bridge these together with a standard mechanism for building automation suppliers and users,” said Andy McMillan, President of BACnet International
