  • BAILEY HALLPRESENTS2016 – 2017 SEASON

  • I am proud to announce the Bailey Hall 2016-17 Cultural Season. This year is our largest and broadest schedule to date, with more than 25 shows in a wide variety of genres. Notable to this year’s schedule is a six-film series presented by The Southern Circuit Series. These exciting, independent films will each include a live, post-film Q&A with the filmmaker.

The other significant development is the long-awaited availability of ticket packages. Experience each series – Bailey Hall Presents, Chamber Music Series, or Film Series – to the fullest, or reserve your attendance at all three series with the Everything Pass. There also is a Pick-6 package, offering even more flexibility and affordability for those who wish to sample shows throughout the season. Rest assured, if plans change, our minimal transfer fee makes it simple to exchange your tickets for a later event.

However you choose to experience our shows, there is something magical about live performances which awaken imagination and lifts one’s spirit…and no one offers performing arts like Bailey Hall.

For tickets or more information visit BaileyHall.org or call the box office 954-201-6884

Song of the Phoenix features original and unique choreography by Nai-Ni Chen, whose repertoire seamlessly blends ancient rituals and modern concepts. Engaging the audience with the majestic thunder of martial arts and the rhythm of poetry, dancers glide across the stage with color, intensity and a whisper of Chinese tradition. The phoenix is known in both Eastern and Western cultures as an awe-inspiring creature of death-defying strength and majesty. For the West, it symbolizes renewal, and for the East, the power and mystery of the feminine.

  • Established in 1798, the United States Marine Band is America’s oldest, continuously active professional musical organization. Its mission is to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. President John Adams invited the Marine Band to make its White House debut on New Year’s Day, 1801, in the then-unfinished Executive Mansion. In March of that year, the band performed for Thomas Jefferson’s inauguration, and it has performed for every presidential inauguration since. Jefferson recognized the unique relationship between the band and the Chief Executive, and he is credited with giving the Band its title, “The President’s Own.”

All of her life’s influences can be felt as Malika moves from Caribbean vocals and rhythms from her native Guadeloupe to soul and jazz, to urban Montreal’s take on hip-hop. Delicate and precise, Malika’s voice is clear and compelling. A powerful stage performer, Malika Tirolien took the lead in

Cirque Du Soleil’s La Nouba. Her performance caught the eyes and ears of Michael League of Snarky Puppy and she was invited to perform on the Grammy–winning release, “Snarky Puppy’s Family Dinner.” Her performance closes the now legendary performance with the powerful version of Malika Tirolien’s song “I’m Not The One.” The music of her beautiful debut album “Sur La Voie Ensoleillée” (Ropeadope) defines musical courage and exploration.

Presidential Election, the Reduced Shakespeare Company returns with 600 years of history in 6,000 seconds! Acclaimed Irish ensemble, Danú, celebrates Christmas with “‘Féile na Nollag’ (A Christmas Gathering).” Christmas in Ireland is one of the most important holidays for families and friends as many Irish people living abroad come home to gather in celebration. Local community choirs singing traditional songs for Christmas and Wren’s Day (Dec. 26) are a common sight throughout Ireland. Music and dance gatherings, in communities both urban and rural, have often combined to offer a great variety of songs, music, and stories for the holidays. Danú’s “Christmas Gathering” offers a taste of these extraordinary events, which have been held across Ireland for hundreds of years.

  • Celebrating its 50th anniversary season, Montana Repertory Theatre presents a revival of the show that put Neil Simon on the map. Simon, like Molière, is a genius of comedy and of the human heart. Through comedy, Simon explores love, relationship, marriage, and family––the pangs of loss and the joy of reunion. “Barefoot in the Park” is a romantic comedy focusing on a pair of newlyweds, Corie and Paul, as they begin married life in a tiny, fifth floor walkup apartment in a Manhattan brownstone. Paul is a strait-laced attorney while Corie is a far more spontaneous, free spirit. As the young couple contend with a lack of heat, a skylight that leaks snow, several long flights of stairs, oddball neighbor Victor Velasco, and Corie’s well-meaning mother, they must also reconcile their own personal differences in how they approach life’s challenges. Adjusting to married life isn’t so easy!

  • In recent years, audiences have been delighted by the excitement of film with live accompaniment. With “Nufonia Must Fall LIVE” we take that one step further by actually creating the film live, in real time, before the audience’s eyes. It is a visual and auditory smorgasbord as patrons

simultaneously watch the story unfold in puppetry on miniature sets, listen to the musicians recreate the soundtrack live, or simply enjoy the finished product on the big screen. Originally a graphic novel by scratch DJ artist Kid Koala, “Nufonia Must Fall” tells the charming story of a lovable robot and a beautiful inventor who find each other despite themselves. The technology will amaze and the story will enchant.

While Colombia is often synonymous with Cumbia, the music from the Pacific Coast, remains largely unexplored. Herencia de Timbiquí works to preserve the ancestral roots of traditional instruments such as the marimba de chonta, the bombo, cununos and the guasá; and combines them with a powerful band, energetic vocals, brass, keyboards, and guitar. The currulao ensemble features exceptional hand percussion on drums that resemble West African djembes, beautifully honoring traditional regional music styles.
