We have identified for you the 5 next best breed matches which appeared in the analysis of your dog's DNA. One ormore of these breeds could have contributed to the genetic makeup of the ancestors indicated by the mixed breedicon. The breeds are listed by the relative strength of each result in our analysis with the most likely at the top ofthe list. HOW WISDOM PANEL INSIGHTS WORKSThe process started when you sent a sample to our laboratory, where the DNA was extracted from the cells andexamined for the 321 markers that are used in the test. The results for these markers were sent to a computer, that evaluated them using a program designed to consider all of the pedigree trees that are possible in the lastthree generations. The trees considered include a simple pedigree with a single breed (a likely pure-bred dog), twodifferent breeds at the parental level (a first-generation cross), all the way up to a complex tree with eight differentgreat-grandparent breeds allowed.

Our computer used information from over 185 breeds from our breed database to fill these potential pedigrees. For each of the millions of combinations of ancestry trees built and considered, the computer gave each a scorerepresenting how well that selected combination of breeds matched to your dog’s data. The pedigree with the overallbest score is the one which is shown on the ancestry chart. Only breeds that reached our set confidence threshold forreporting are reported in the ancestry chart.

The Poodle is a breed with a long history and unknown origins. Poodles have been featured in royal artworksince the 1500’s and although many think of it as a French breed, it is unlikely. Experts believe the Poodle mayhave originated in Central Europe or Russia, although it is also possible that the breed originated in Spain orPortugal. Another theory claims the Poodle was brought to France by German soldiers during the 1400’s. It isnot disputed however, that the modern traits of the breed were developed in France. Poodles are believed to berelated to the Portuguese Water Dog and the Irish Water Spaniel. Though many regard Poodles as ornamentallap dogs, they are actually gun dogs with an excellent reputation for bird hunting and water retrieval. The namePoodle has its roots in an old German word meaning “to splash about,” which is a reference to their fondnessfor water. Smaller Poodle breeds were developed in the 1700’s, much later than the large Standard Poodle. The Poodle was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1887 and has become one of the most popularbreeds in America.

The Miniature Poodle comes in a wide range of colors including solid blacks, grays, silvers, browns, apricots, creams and shading variations. Although the AKC standard does not permit particolored dogs, this is anaccepted variant by the UKC. Poodles have been historically clipped to aid performance so may look quitedifferent unclipped.

EARS MUZZLE TAIL

The Shih Tzu was a breed that was created in Tibet during the seventeenth century. The development of theShih Tzu was achieved by the crossbreeding of the Lhasa Apso and Pekingese breeds. This crossbreedingoccurred when a Lhasa Apso was given as a gift by the Dalai Lama to the Emperor of China. The Emperor hada Pekingese in his palace and this Pekingese mated with the Lhasa, resulting in the world’s first litter of ShihTzu puppies. Eventually, the breed became very popular in the Imperial Court, but in 1908 after the death ofEmpress T’zu Hsi, most Shih Tzu breeding came to a stop. This was further complicated by the CommunistRevolution in China, which nearly caused the breed to become extinct. The Shih Tzu was saved, however,by a pool of 14 dogs that were introduced into England. The Shih-Tzu did not find its way to America untilafter World War II, when they were brought back with American soldiers. The breed received official AmericanKennel Club recognition in 1969.

The Shih Tzu is a breed with a wide variety of colors, with all permissible under the breed standard. Thecolors can be blacks, browns, silvers, creams, and brindle (black and brown pattern) in solid, particolor ortricolor with lots of white. Black markings or a black mask are also seen in this breed.

EARS MUZZLE TAIL

The Löwchen breed originated somewhere in Europe, and is likely ancestrally related to the Bichon Frise family. The breed is affectionately referred to as the "Little Lion Dog" due to its mane and characteristic clipped trim. The exact time and place of the breeds creation are unclear, but dogs resembling the Löwchen can be seen inexamples of sixteenth century German art, suggesting that the lion-trim was popular at the time. A Löwchenfancier named Madame Bennert is credited with saving the breed through her extensive breeding efforts thatbegan in 1945. Soon after, the breed’s numbers began to steadily increase, and during the late 1960s andearly 1970s, the breed was finally introduced to Great Britain and the United States. The American KennelClub first recognized the Löwchen in the Non-Sporting Group in 1999.

The Lowchen has long dense coat which is slightly wavy. The coat is generally trimmed into the traditional"Lion trim" and looks quite different untrimmed. Coat colors include black, brindle (black with brownstripes), gold, red, silver and fawn, with cream or white markings. Tan or silver points are possible.
