Dear BIMA Celebrants!
At our museum opening two years ago we had the
privilege of thanking you for your wonderful acts
of faith and trust in supporting a new organization
that had never before designed or built an art
museum! Our appreciation of your belief in us –
and in our vision – has only gotten stronger.
At the celebration in 2013 we reminded you of an observation made by
Simone Weill, that the rarest and the purest form of generosity is attention.
We believe that still. We so appreciate the attention you continue to pay
to “the art and craft of our region and our time.”
You know, they say (or if they don’t, they should!) that the only things you
absolutely have to do in person are to be born and to die; everything else is
optional. We are so grateful that you choose to support your art museum in
person – as member, docent, volunteer, patron, Bistro-goer, event-attendee,
movie-watcher, Store-shopper, or simply as visitor!
Believe us, we know you are here. Thank you for showing up – and thank you
once again for all that you do on BIMA’s behalf.
Love,
Cynthia Sears & Frank BuxtonBIMA Art & Experiences Auction Honorary Co-Chairs

Auction RulesRegistrationUpon entering the auction or during the Auction Preview event, you will receive or confirm your bid number. Please use only the bid number assigned to you for bidding on silent and live auction items.
Silent AuctionSilent Auction opens per the published Schedule of Events. The minimum bid and minimum raise for each item is written on the bid sheet by the item. To be valid, bids must comply with these minimums and be legible. Please note that only absentee bids can be placed in advance on items reserved for the Saturday, June 13, 2015 Auction. (see also Absentee Bidding Instructions).
To place a bid, write your bid number next to the bid amount on the bid sheet. Doing so constitutes a legal contract to purchase that Silent Auction item at the price you stated if your bid is the winning bid. The last (highest) valid bid entered at the moment the section closes will be the winning bid.
A maximum guaranteed bid is stated on each bid sheet. By placing your bid number in this box, the bidding closes. The item is yours and will be available for pick up or delivery (see Delivery) once it is paid for and packaged.
The Auction Committee reserves the right to withdraw any item at any time without notice before the actual sale. In the event of a dispute, the Auction Committee shall act as final authority in determining the winning bid.
Live AuctionLive Auction bidding will begin according to the published Schedule of Events. When bidding, please hold up your bid number toward the auctioneer. The Live Auction will continue until all items are sold.
If a group is bidding on one item, please designate one person to place your combined bid. Auction items will be awarded to one purchaser only.
A bid acknowledged by the auctioneer is a legal contract to purchase the item.
Absentee BiddingAll auction ticket holders are eligible to place absentee bids on any auction items. Eligible absentee bids must be placed using the Absentee Bid Form. This bid form will be available during the Auction Preview Event (Friday, June 12, from 6PM to 9PM) or otherwise upon request. Absentee bids for the silent auction items will be placed 20 minutes after the doors open for Silent Auctions. Bids are kept and placed by a small (confidential) team of auction committee members and/or volunteers. The bidder will be notified within 24 hours if their bid wins the item(s). Live Auction absentee bids can be placed by a dedicated BIMA staff person or volunteer who will bid in increments (up to your maximum amount) as requested by the auctioneer only following another legitimate bid from an auction attendee. Absentee bids are kept confidential.
PaymentAll items must be paid for by the end of the evening unless other arrangements need to be made. For your convenience, we provide an Express Pay option so that you may pre-register your credit card. We gladly accept Cash, Check, MasterCard, Amex, and Visa. (Auction Rules continue on page 9)
Enjoy the Auction – Free Delivery is Available!
Auction Rules continued(Auction Rules continued from page 8)
Pick-Up Once you have paid for your winning items, you will be issued a receipt. Please present this receipt at Pick-Up to claim your winning tangible items and/or certificates for services.
It is the responsibility of the purchaser to remove his/her winning item(s) from BIMA within 3 days of purchase, unless prior arrangements are made for delivery (see Delivery).
Terms of SaleUnless otherwise noted, all certificates for goods and services must be used within one year of the auction date. All items and services are subject to the terms and conditions specified by the donors.
Potential bidders may request assistance from an auction committee member to inspect pieces during the preview events. BIMA will have dedicated auction representatives for this purpose. All sales are final. There will be no exchanges or refunds. Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA) does not make any expressed or implied warranties or guarantees on auction items regarding quality or value of items or services. BIMA attempted to describe and catalog all items correctly, but all items are offered and sold “AS IS” and “WITH ALL FAULTS.”
BIMA neither warrants nor represents, and in no event shall be responsible for the correctness of descriptions, genuineness, authorship, provenance or condition of the items. No statement made in this catalog or made orally at the auction or elsewhere shall
be deemed such a warranty for tax purposes or market value. Items have not been appraised unless otherwise noted.
Reservations for trips and vacation accommodations must be mutually arranged with the donor unless otherwise noted. No refunds will be allowed on travel packages for canceled tickets and/or accommodations.
By the buyer’s purchase, the buyer waives any claim for liability against BlMA, its elected and appointed officials, members and employees, sponsors, volunteers connected with the auction, and/or the donor of the item. Neither BIMA nor the donor is responsible for any personal injuries or damage that may result from the use of the property or services.
Tax InformationThis catalog lists the fair market value of each item. Any amount you pay in excess of the fair market value would normally be available to you as a charitable contribution for tax purposes. Please check with your tax advisor for specifics. BIMA will mail you a letter for your records.
Delivery ( just like admission to the art museum – IT’S FREE!)
We include free delivery within the Puget Sound region, and especially encourage it for any large or fragile items purchased. Simply ask about delivery at check-out, and a staff or volunteer art handler will make an appointment with you in the days immediately following the event.

Your tax-deductible donation supports our annual exhibitions, educational programs and operations. BIMA has much to celebrate….we have over 80,000 visitors per year and serve as a major gateway for Bainbridge Island and the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas. Recently we achieved prominent national recognition – we were named on prominent lists of the top small town museums in America – Travel & Leisure, CNN, and Fodors.
BIMA rotates exhibitions three times per year and presents a diverse array of educational programs. We partner with dozens of non-profit cultural and civic organizations with workshops, lectures, seminars, small scale performances, musical events, film screenings, and film series. We set an early goal to be a “living room” for the community – we met that goal and added a wonderful dining room – the BIMA Bistro! We support artists in many ways – through our exhibitions and programs, and also our Museum Store. After two successful years we have launched a near-term Strategic Planning process, setting goals in all areas for the next three years.
During the Live Auction the Auctioneers will ask for your support – please support BIMA with a gift that is meaningful to you, at one of the following levels:
$25,000$15,000$10,000$5,000$2,500$1,000$500$250$100
We greatly appreciate your support of BIMA’s Second Annual Art & Experiences Auction with your RAISE THE PADDLE donation!
Help celebrate BIMA’s second full year of operations with a generous RAISE THE PADDLE gift!
