Mission Statement

Asha’s ethos is to show the love of Christ in a practical way. As an organisation it seeks to address the physical, emotional and spiritual needs and believes in holistic development of slum dwellers.

Prayer meetings, Worship Services and devotions are part of Asha’s weekly programme.

Empowering slum dwellers to stand up for their rights

Raising awareness and improving healthcare

Improving access to education

WHEN?• Depart: Tuesday 25th October (pm)

• Return: Saturday 5th November (pm)

• 2 days off school, Prize Day and half term break

WHAT? - Continuing the work in Tigri

(a slum in South Delhi)

WHAT? - Painting the children’s resource centre

WHAT?

- Organising craft and games sessions with children

WHAT?

- Teaching English and ICT

WHAT?

- Attending clinics and visiting lanes with Asha staff

WHO?

• 12 pupils selected from current Years 12 & 13

(divided into 4 sub teams)

WHO?

• Mix of pupils in terms of age and gender

• Pupils who can work well in a team

• Pupils who have a genuine interest in working with children

• Pupils with a range of skills

Media and Journalism Team

• Making Power Points for Assemblies

• Publicity in local media

• Taking photographs & editing video

• Writing a blog whilst in India

Teaching Team

• Planning English lessons

• Working with children

• Teaching English / ICT

• Drama skills

Sports and Games Team• Planning games for different ages

• Working with children

• Sports coaching experience

• Organisation of team games

Arts and Crafts Team

• Ability to draw murals• Craft organisation and preparation• Working with children• Teaching crafts

COST?

• £1000 parental contribution

(5 X £200 instalments)

• £300 (minimum) personal commitment to fundraising towards team expenses & project

• Pupils will be expected to participate in team fundraising for the Asha Project

WHY?• Make a difference to others by alleviating

poverty and suffering

• Support and encourage Dr. Kiran Martin and the Asha team

• Experience a different culture

• Make a difference to yourself

• Take an application form

• Hand in your application form to Miss Bassett - Apply to 1 or 2 of the 4 sub-teams- Thursday 10th February- by 3.30pm

• If necessary, short-listing will be based on Application Forms

• Interview Process

• The team will be confirmed before the end of February
