General Chick-lit: Ted

Chick-lit in the Philippine context

The group considers the novel as not really the western chick-lit novel The concepts of love are not really purely romantic unlike the normal chick-lit characterized by

novels like the precious hearts romances Although through the concept of cooking and the life of nenita (the gossips in the

neighbourhood) makes it a novel that is seemingly relatable for women, still the group believes that there is more to it being a chick-lit.

Unlike other chick-lits, there is no happy ending when it comes to the romantic love presented in the novel (marina and gable, VV and Basilio)

There are different types of love in the novel not just romantic love which makes it more complicated than normal chick-lits

No fairy tale endings in the love stories unlike in typical chick-lits The group thinks that through contextualizing a chick-lit novel in the Philippines, relationships

and the concept of love a new genre emerged to be a more complicated way of chick-lit
