A trip towards a utopian land in a universe where the invisible turns into visible. Bananas for the memory In a imaginary country from a silent movie, a street musician and an orphan meet. Forced by the war to abandon their home, they begin a trip to exile in search of a utopian universe called XXI century. On their trip they will be confronted with the actual society and the reality, with all the colors and its nuances. In the XXI century they will realize of the loss of their pass world and of the mechanisms of the new one, bringing up the deficiencies of our actual society.

Bananas for the memory

In a imaginary country from a silent movie, a street musician and an orphan meet. Forced by the war to abandontheir home, they begin a trip to exile in search of a utopian universe called XXI century.

On their trip they will be confronted with the actual society and the reality, with all the colors and its nuances. Inthe XXI century they will realize of the loss of their pass world and of the mechanisms of the new one, bringing upthe deficiencies of our actual society.

Idea

Bananas for the memory

This show offers a look back, to the silent cinema an its aesthetics. Into how to create making visible the invisible.From the mime, from the capability of communicating with the audience in a direct language, physical andtherefore universal. A code established from the literal physical translation till the abstraction of movement.

We want to rescue the scenographic element of the backdrop in a contemporary language supported by thetechnological innovations of our time. The projections play an important role in this show as they form the differentsceneries that accompany the characters on their trip.

Method

Bananas for the memory

Through the object theatre, using everyday objects as the suitcases, either as is or transformed into other things,requiring the skill of the performer and the imagination of the audience, various atmospheres will be generated. Abed sheet, which turns into a bed or a sail, puppets of babies' bodies with the actors heads, hands that appearand disappear, buttons that button themselves, the illusion, the magic, the oneiric…

The live music, the dance, and the movement form a indispensable part of this project, generating amultidisciplinary show that uses as its base several universal artistic languages, those that do not derive from theword to originate communication and expression.

The set design is composed by three suitcases that work as tools to transform the space and a screen where various scenographic proposals are projected.

Technical requirements

Bananas for the memory

The set design of “Bananas for the memory” is adaptable to any space within the minimum dimensions (8x 10m)and it is very versatile, as it does not require a specific space. It installation is simple, four element. Threesuitcases and a mobile cyclorama. The show does not need wings and we do not hang anything from the catwalk.

Cast

Graduated in physical theatre by Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático de Madrid (RESAD) and holds a Master’s degree in film acting from Central de Cine de

Madrid. He has worked as an actor in “Pluto” directed by Magüi Mira in Merida Classical Theatre Festival, “ La Boba para los Otros y Discreta para Sí” and “ El Mágico

Prodigioso” in Almagro Classical Theatre Festival. It first show as director and playwriter “Drume, Negrita” was selected by the project P.I.A Spain­Brasil and was

presented in São Paulo y Recife.

Awarded with a full Scholarship from CWRU, Cleveland, Ohio (USA) to study a Master´s in

Contemporary dance. Through this same university receives the L.Eva Pancoast award to

participat in the Contact Improv Festival of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She participates in video­

dance projects in Mexico and France with the collective “Telar”. Graduated in physical theatre by

RESAD completes her training in London at Rose Bruford College, London, where she works

with the contemporary dance company Salder’s Wells. She has worked in the pieces “Intáctil”

Madrid Fringe Festival, “Leonor must die” en Zona Dynamic (Berlin) “Etta er Brad heimur”en

Reykjavik, (Iceland). Currently she works Third Arrangement touring with "Pages from the book

of..." in Edinburgh Fringe, Instropolitana Project Festival, (Bratislava) Stanslavski Continues

festival (Moscow), The Wandering Theatres festival de Gardzeniece, Teatru Solwey (Poland),

Eugene Ionesco theatre in Chisanau (Moldova) y en Sibiu Festival (Romania)

Graduated in physical theatre by RESAD. Continues his training in London at Rose Bruford College in European Theatre Arts. In England he participates

in several workshops as Puppetry in performance with Dinn Cadwell from the musical War Horse. He works with Andrezj Welmisnki and Teresa

Welmisnka from Cricot2 in Edinburgh Fringe with the show “Against nothingness”. Carlos worked with the british company Complicite with Catherine

Alexander & Joyce Henderson & Femi Elufowoju Jr. And other british companies as. Ramshacklicious Company, Dans la Poche Company and The Bone

Ensemble Company. He finishes his professional studies in Music at Conservatorio Teresa Berganza de Madrid in Viola. As a sculpture he graduates at

Escuela de Artes y Oficios de la Palma, Madrid. Both artistic discipline inform his works as actor and creator.
