Successful instrumental music students do the following...
– Showuptoasmanyclassesastheyareableto.
– Practiceathomeforabout 5-10minutes5-6daysaweek.
– Havegoalsforeachpracticesession.
– Askforhelpwhentheyneedit!!!!
– Realizethatthiswillbecomefun– butsometimes itcanbedifficultandlotsofhardwork.
– Learninganinstrument islikelearninganewlanguage– themoreoftenyoucanuseitthebetteryouwillbecome.
Students will be more successful at learning an instrument if…
– Parents,peers,andsiblingsaresupportive oftheirlearning.

– Theyseethisasalong-terminvestmentoftheirtime.Studentswhoonlywanttoplayforayearwillwindupnotbeingassuccessfulattheendofayearasastudentwhoseesthemselvesplayinginhighschoolorbeyond!
– Thisisagreatopportunity thatwehaveinArlington.Ididn’tgettostartlearninganinstrumentuntil6th grade.ButbecauseIdon’t seestudentseverydayitisuptothemtokeepthemomentumgoingbetweenlessons.
How to practice

– Ifmotivation isanissuetrypracticing infrontoftheTV.Haveyourstudentpracticeduringallofthecommercials. You’dbesurprisedathowmuchpracticing cangetdoneinasingle30minute television show!
– Schedule thetime. When it’salreadyonyourcalendar itskindofhardtoignore!

How to practice something new

– I.E.:Get3noteslearned.Bemoresuccessfulwithbowingbetween2strings.**Thisissimilartoexpectingyourselftofinish a500pagebookin2hours.It’sjustnotpossibleunlessyou’reSheldonfromTheBigBangTheory.Setarealisticgoal- ifyoumeetit,findanewgoaltoaddon!
