School News
Message from the Principal Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Our ‘mantra’ or key words at BCS are RESPECT, QUALITY,
PARTICIPATION & SAFETY. They underpin the
expectations and values BCS staff teach to our students
whether they are in Kinder or Year 12. We acknowledge
and celebrate students when they act positively and we
support them when they make mistakes. This newsletter is
just one source of acknowledging out students growth and
achievement.
The school has a new School Plan for 2018 -2020 that has
been developed to meet the needs of the school at this
point in time. Our vision statement in the plan reflects this
focus:
Baradine Central School will provide inclusive and
quality 21st century learning experiences in a safe
and respectful environment. Students and
staff will be encouraged and supported to achieve
success through attaining educational outcomes.
NAPLAN
This week is a big week for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9
who have NAPLAN tests to sit on Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday. NAPLAN is a process the Federal Government
uses to collect data on educational standards across the
country.
Schools use the NAPLAN data to inform planning at both
individual students level and at cohort levels. At BCS, staff
access NAPLAN data to monitor student growth in the
NAPLAN tests each two years.
Parents receive a NAPLAN report for their child that clearly
demonstrates the student’s performance in the test
against other students performance in the same grade at
both the school and nationally. The report will be sent to
you in September.
Young Leaders of the West
Congratulations to primary leaders Jorja Carey and Claudia
McConnaughty, for their outstanding participation in the
Young Leaders of the West camp last week and to Richie
Milgate for his participation as a presenter. Our new
Director, Mr Chris Shaw, also visited and commented on
what a great opportunity and quality program it is for
young leaders.
The event was conducted at the Warrumbungles Education
Centre.
Dubbo Show
Congratulations to the Sheep Show Team – Nariah, Molly,
Halle, Bradley and Jordy for their successes with the sheep
at Dubbo Show over the weekend. The awful weather was
not a deterrent for these enthusiastic students who
represented our school with outstanding teamwork.
P&C Meeting
The next P&C meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday 29th
May.
Great Barrier Reef Excursion
Participating students received note number 3 last
Wednesday during a short meeting about the itinerary.
A parent meeting for those signed up to the excursion will
be incorporated into the P&C meeting next week.

Sutherland during their History lesson learning about
Aboriginal culture.
Year 5/6 Botanic Garden
On Tuesday Peter and Brendon from the Botanical Garden in
Sydney returned to Baradine Central School to help Year 5/6
create their garden to attract the vulnerable Flame Robin to
our school. The students planted a wide variety of native
plants which would entice insects to the garden for the
Flame Robin and other small native birds to feed on. Peter
and Brendon then spent time looking at the information
poster about the Flame Robin that the class created. The
botanist were very impressed with the high quality
information included in these posters.
Peachy Shield/Richardson Cup
& Netball Gala Day
On Tuesday 8th May, students in Year 4-6 participated in a
rugby league and netball gala day at the Coonamble netball
and football grounds. Students had a great day and
represented our school with pride.
The football boys tried their best in all of their games.
The Year 4 boys were successful in reaching the finals with
students from Gulargambone.
The netball girls were lucky enough to have four students
from St Lawrence’s join our netball team for the day.
A big thank you to Richie for accompanying us and
congratulations to all students involved on your positive
behaviour.
