Re : Mold Inspection Cave Spring High School 3712 Chaparral Drive Roanoke, Virginia 24018
Dear Mr. Epperly:
On July 24, 2018, we returned to obtain air samples post remediation from the downstairs auxiliary gym annex at Cave Spring High School. The samples were subject to airborne mold spore evaluation. This report summarizes our findings.
SUM:MARY OF SURVEY
The airborne mold concentration inside the annex is less than that outside .
None of the molds found in our study are deemed toxic to humans with normal immunity systems .
SURVEY PROCEDURE
Relative Humidity
We measured the relative humidity with a psychrometer. A light rain was falling. The humidity readings are as follows:
Location Relative Humidity (%)
Downstairs Auxiliary Gym Annex 58% Outside Main Door 7 1%
P.O. Box 293 Vinton Virginia, 24179 (540) 676-7628
Air Samples
We used Mirco 5 Microcell spore traps to sample air in the noted location at Cave Spring High School. Air was drawn into special cassettes at a given flow rate. Mold and other airborne particles are then captured by an adhesive coated plate inside the cassette. The plates are then examined for mold spores.
In addition, we obtained one (1) outside air sample . The spore counts on the outside samples can be used as a base line to evaluate the mold in the building's interior.
The samples were forwarded to Scientific Laboratory in Midlothian Virginia who examined them for mold spores. The results are summarized as follows:

EVALAUTION
Airborne Mold Spores
The airborne mold concentration inside the noted area is 17 percent of that encountered in the outside ambient air.
This indicates that one is exposed to a greater concentration of mold spores outside the building than inside.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Normal air currents carry mold spores. If a spore lands on a surface that is suitable for mold growth, a colony will form. Moisture and carbon are the most critical elements in allowing fungal growth . If no moisture is present, the spores will remain inert.
Our relative humidity readings suggested that no significant moisture sources were present on the day of our inspection. A light rain was falling at the time of our testing.
Please understand that air tests are essentially snapshots of a dynamic phenomenon. The airborne mold concentrations are constantly changing. This test may or may not indicate the average condition of these spaces.
