MOST BEAUTIFUL CANYONS OF THE WORLDGORGE DU VERDON
The Gorge du Verdon is a river canyon in south-
eastern France that is considered by many to be
Europe’s most beautiful. The canyon is about 25
kilometers in length and rises a spectacular 700
meters (2,300 feet) from the Verdon river below.
The river, which is named after its startling green
emerald color, is one of the canyon’s most beautiful
features. The area has become a magnet for
walkers, climbers and lovers of water sports which
includes rafting, kayaking, sailing and water skiing.
TIGER LEAPING GORGETiger Leaping Gorge is situated on the Yangtze
River in southwestern China. About 15 km (9
miles) in length, the canyon passes through a
series of rapids surrounded by mountains on
both sides that sharply rise 3,000 meters above
the river. It is believed to be the deepest canyon
in the world – depending on the criteria applied.
The canyon’s narrowest point is just 30 meter
wide.
GRAND CANYON The Grand Canyon is located in northern Arizona
and is one of the great tourist attractions in the
United States. Carved over several million years by
the Colorado River, the canyon attains a depth of
over 1.6 km (1 mile) and 446 km (277 miles) long.
The Grand Canyon is not the deepest or the longest
canyon in the world but the overwhelming size and
its intricate and colorful landscape offers visitor
spectacular vistas that are unmatched throughout
the world.
