Overview

The Barcelona Corporate Football Tour is a two-day program organized by the Sports Business Institute in the month of August that consists of professional visits to the top football clubs and corporate sporting organizations in the city.

During this executive tour you will be exposed to the business models of the top sports properties and organizations in Barcelona. The program also includes social and cultural events in the city.

Who is it aimed at?

The program is aimed at professionals and recent graduates looking to acquire hands-on industry knowledge by visiting the city’s most iconic sporting organizations. Whether you are a recent graduate or aseasoned sports executive, this tour willprovide you with a unique experience to learn and network with top industry professionals in one of the world’s most vibrant and exciting sport capitals.

10:30 am – 12:30 pm - Masterclass Sports Marketing I – Successful Sponsorship Models in FootballA successful sponsorship involves a reciprocal relationship between a brand and a sports property that generates a win-win partnership. This session will provide a detailed overview of football sponsorship models based on the latest industry business case studies. Location: ESEI Business School – Calle Montevideo 31, Barcelona, Spain

1:30 pm – 3:00 pm – Masterclass Sports Marketing II – Brand Value of Football PlayersThe objective this masterclass is to provide participants with an overall understanding of the commercial agreements between individual football players and corporate sponsors. We will analyze player image rights, sponsorship contracts, social media activation, service days and endorsement obligations. Location: ESEI Business School – Calle Montevideo 31, Barcelona, Spain

3:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Travel to RCD Espanyol

4:00 pm – 5:30 pm – Visit to RCD Espanyol This professional site visit will consist of a complete tour of this UEFA category 4 stadium including the field of play, corporate hospitality areas, players’ tunnels and benches, press room, mixed zone area and presidential suites. 10:30 am – 12:00 pm – Visit to Barcelona’s Olympic MuseumVisit will include a guided tour in English of the museum and surrounding Olympic facilities. The Barcelona 1992 Olympic movement is a successful case study of a successful and impactful legacy of a major sporting event. Location: Avinguda l’Estadi, 60, Barcelona, Spain

2:30 pm – Meeting Point – Adidas Flagship StoreLocation: Passeig de Gràcia, 3, Barcelona Spain

2:30 pm – 4:30 pm – Sports Marketing – Retail ExperienceThe Sports Marketing Retail Experience will consist of visits to the flagship stores in the city for brands including Nike, Adidas, and Puma. Participants will be given a practical assignment to complete to analyze the customer experience from a business perspective. Location: Passeig de Gràcia, 3, Barcelona Spain

4:30 pm – 5:00 pm – Travel to Camp Nou, FC Barcelona

5:30 pm – 7:30 pm – Visit to FC Barcelona Visit will include a complete tour guided by a professional from the club where participants will have a chance to visit the club’s museum, access the playing field, players’ tunnel, press room, mixed zone areas, media commentary boxes, visitor’s dressing room and the ¨Messi Space¨.Location: Camp Nou, C. FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona is one of the world’s most successful sports properties on and off the pitch. With an estimated worth of $3.2 billion according to Forbes magazine it is among the richest football clubs in the world.

The visit will include a complete tour of FC Barcelona guided by a professional from the club where you will have a chance to visit the club’s museum, access the play-ing field, players’ tunnel, press room and mixed zone areas, media commentary boxes, visitors dressing room, as well as the ¨Messi Space¨, a special area dedicated to Argentinian superstar Leo Messi, where you can see his four Ballons d’Or and his three Golden Boots, and enjoy all of his goals on two interactive walls.

The tour will also include a short presenta-tion about Qatar Airways, the club’s main sponsor, where you will learn about how they have successfully run activation cam-paigns that have had massive exposure worldwide.

RCD Espanyol

Founded in 1900, RCD Espanyol play in La Liga, the highest division of Spanish foot-ball. It has won the Copa del Rey four times, most recently in 2006, and reached the UEFA Cup final in 1988 and 2007.

Espanyol play at the 40,500-capacity Pow-er8 Stadium. The stadium took three years to build and cost approximately €60 million. Completed in the summer of 2009, it was awarded as Venue of the Year getting the Stadium Business Awards on 18 June 2010 in Dublin. It is the new home of RCD Es-panyol and replaced their previous stadium, the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. It is the eighth stadium in the club’s history.

The visit will include a complete tour of the stadium including the playing field, corpo-rate hospitality areas, players’ tunnel, play-ers’ benches, press room and mixed zone areas as well as the presidential suites.

At the end of the visit, SBI delegates will have the chance to meet the club’s mar-keting manager, who will provide a presen-tation about the club’s main sponsors and marketing objectives and will be available to answer questions from our group.

Barcelona’s Olympic Museum

The Joan Antoni Samaranch Olympic and Sports Museum is located in front of the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium at the Montjuïc hill. In June 2010 it was renamed in honour of Juan Antonio Samaranch, who was president of the International Olympic Committee from 1980 to 2001 and a key person during the 1992 Summer Olympics, which were held in Barcelona.

The museum displays high-performance sport competitions, recreational sports, sports in general and sports for disabled people. It shows how sport can promote values, educate, innovate and renew. The museum has a sport idols space with out-standing players. It also hosts an area for mass sport and major events. It includes advanced technology and interactive mul-timedia installations.

Football Marketing & Sponsorship Masterclasses The tour includes two masterclasses where delegates will learn industry benchmarks and best practices about the latest cases in sports marketing and sponsorship in the football industry. The topics include:

SBI has trained executives from top flight sports properties including FIFA, UEFA, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Newcas-tle United, West Ham United, Goal.com, the Mexican Football Federation, among many other clubs and national associations worldwide.

Led by Diego Valdes, Director of the Sports Business Institute, the classes will allow delegates to understand how to generate revenue from the football industry.

All participants will receive a course certifi-cate upon completion.
