Our StoryFour years ago, our founder Robert Workman set out to change

the world, equipped only with a humanitarian heart and a small

team of passionate, dedicated individuals. Their goal: to grant all

people the bare necessities of a civilized life. On their journey,

however, they found that the support structures for such a task

were inefficient, long outdated, or altogether nonexistent. From

this realization came the inspiration for Barebones.

Barebones is about supplying the bare necessities for living - food,

water, shelter, and power - in the most efficient and independent

way possible to any location around the world. We design and

manufacture sustainable garden products to use from seed to

harvest, as well as the toughest, most comfortable living shelters,

portable power systems, and outdoor products on the market.

Our sister company, Goal Zero, is the leader in portable rugged

solar technology. Between Barebones and Goal Zero, we are

fulfilling our vision to improve quality of life for all.

Our VisionMy experience in life has taught me that whenever

we try to do something significant, there will always

be opposition. The beginnings of Barebones started

by simply trying to do good. Our vision was to help

people out of poverty by teaching them how to build

businesses. We wanted to empower them to lift

themselves out of poverty.

We ran into so many obstacles that, one day, I turned

my eyes heavenward and said, ‘I give up. I can’t do

this anymore.’ Almost immediately a thought came

to me. ‘If not you, who? If not now, when?’ That was

profound and it gave our team the courage to work

through our problems. Our vision remained true, but

we found that our methods had to adjust from what

we thought would work to what actually worked. We

discovered that by creating basic tools that everyone

needed and wanted they could use those tools to

create income opportunities within their community.

At Barebones, our products are designed to lift the

poorest of poor while still being relevant to the

richest of rich. Think about that for a moment. If

we have products that will really do that, then those

products are a great equalizer in lifting us all to a

higher place. After all, we are all here on this earth

together sharing a human experience.

We can offer reliable power, provide sustainable living

shelters, and teach sustainable food growth to every

human being on this earth without overwhelming our

resources. There is enough for all.
