● All students will begin the year with Remote Learning.

● No students will be present at school for their orientation days if Plan B+ was selected.

● Attendance will be taken daily by the Homeroom teacher.

● Students will be assessed on their learning. Waiting for more specific information from the district.

● Orientation Days - will occur remotely. Teachers will communicate the structure of these days prior to August 17th.

Remote Academy

When CMS Board decides to return to in-person

learning, FRA students will continue to learn remotely

until the end of the semester. A choice to move

plans can be made then.

Plan B-Plus Remote

When CMS Board decides to return to in-person

learning, Plan B+ students will return to school on their rotation days. The

current rotation letter will still apply.

● Begins on August 17 for all students, K-5● Will be a combination of synchronous and

asynchronous learning. ● Teachers will communicate student schedules

prior to August 17.● Supply lists from last year are posted on the

school website. ● Teachers will also be communicating a supply

list for remote learning.

Remote Learning

Synchronous Learning - Synchronous learning is any type of learning that takes place in real-time, where students are engaging and interacting in learning simultaneously with the teacher. This means that the student, classmates, and instructor interact in a specific virtual place, or in person, through a specific online medium, at a specific time. It’s not exactly anywhere, anyhow, anytime. Methods of synchronous online learning include video conferencing, teleconferencing, live chatting, and live-streaming instruction.

Advantages: It provides active discussion, immediate feedback, and a personal familiarity. Student questions can be answered instantly.Limitations: There is a rigid schedule and significant disruption in the event of technical difficulties. The quality of the instructional sessions is dependent upon the instructor.

Synchronous Learning

Asynchronous Learning - Asynchronous learning happens on a student’s schedule. While the student’s course of study, instructor or degree program will provide materials for reading, instruction for viewing, assignments

for completing, and exams for evaluation, the student has the ability to access and satisfy these requirements within a flexible time frame. Methods of asynchronous online learning include self-guided lesson modules, streaming video content, virtual libraries, posted lecture notes, and exchanges across discussion boards or social media platforms.

Advantages: Flexibility, PacingLimitations: Isolation, Requires more student self-discipline

Asynchronous Learning

● Building relationships with students and classmates● Learning how to use their device ● Learn how to access and use Canvas● Daily schedules● Class routines and procedures● Remote learning expectations● It will not last two weeks. Expect approximately

three days.

Orientation Days

● Students in Grades K-5 will be issued a technology device.

● K-2 students will be issued an iPad.● 3-5 students will be issued a Chromebook.● Parents will complete three forms prior to picking

up the devices. Students will also have to sign the forms. (We will post these to our website and have hard copies available on the distribution day.)

Devices / textbooks are available for pick up on:● August 14 from 9am to 7pm● August 17 from 4 - 7pm

● Students will be grouped with other Barnette Students .

● All students enrolled in the FRA will be grouped in classes together.

● All students enrolled in Plan B+ will be grouped in classes together

● All grade level teachers will be planning together, providing common instruction.

● We will continue to departmentalize for students in grades 1-5.

Virtual Family Canvas Connects will be held for all CMS students and families to ensure they have a consistent experience when using Canvas, the district’s learning management system. Families can register now; topics will include what to expect with Canvas, how to access the Canvas app and pair it with a student account, and the functions available to parents. Sessions will be held Aug. 10, 6-7 p.m.; Aug. 12, 8-9 a.m.; and Aug. 14, noon-1 p.m.
