Celebrates 10 years in Regional Victoria

A LOCAL business recently passed a milestone that only a handful of businesses are fortunate enough

to achieve. Bartercard Central Victoria is celebrating 10 years of servicing the local business community with its unique approach to sales, marketing and pro� tability.

The Bartercard business model had been operating successfully in many areas of Australia since 1991, when an opportunity became available to local businessman, Ian Furze, to bring the model to Central Victoria. “I wanted businesses within our own community to be afforded the same opportunities that the metropolitan and interstate businesses were being given” Ian said. “And the concept is simple. Use your own inventory to purchase from others, instead of cash!”

So after a number of years in retail, Ian opened the Bartercard franchise in Bendigo in September 2002 with enthusiasm and one employee. Ian re� ected, “My plan was very basic. Bring business owners to Central Victoria to spend and then recruit the extra businesses to support and expand the network”.

Since 2002, Bartercard has assisted local businesses to achieve an additional $36 million in sales with a signi� cant $19 million generated from outside of Central Victoria. This has ultimately meant increased business activity, more people employed and more connection between local businesses.

“It has been very rewarding to

be working with local businesses as there is such diversity. Central Victoria is blessed with so many creative and successful business operators and it is a pleasure to assist so many of them as they pursue their true potential”.

With continual growth since 2002, Bartercard Central Victoria is a team of seven, servicing a membership base of over 450 local businesses.

In recent years Bartercard has

also been able to give back to the community by working with several charities including The Salvation Army Bush� re relief and Give Me 5 for Kids.

During the 10 years, Ian and his team have achieved a number of milestones, including nominations in the Bendigo Business Excellence awards, Victorian � nalist in the FCA Franchisee of the Year awards and numerous internal awards including

the Regional Franchise of 2011.“Our success is simply a re� ection
