Curriculum Evaluation

Courses that I found most useful during my internship experience:Foundations of Health EducationMulticultural Factors & Social Determinants of HealthNutrition and HealthCommunity HealthProgram Planning

Courses that should be added to curriculum:The HEP courses that are offered at GSU are perfect. Each courses was useful to me during my internship. The courses in general will help in my career field as an health educator. I would suggest adding a class that will help health educator cope with people with special needs. Within my internship experience I came in contact with children who were autistic. One of the intern that work along with me was autistic. Being around him kind of taught me how to handle someone who is autistic.

Internship Experience

I enjoyed my internship experience at Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation. The Health and Wellness Program Department does so much for the community. I think the best part of my internship was working with the different summer camp sites. The fact that I got the opportunity to share health education information to these campers was fantastic. I used materials and skills that I learnt throughout college to ensure that the information was effective and valid. While promoting healthy habits I was also learning from my peers and the campers as well. I spend my days not only teaching but also being physically active by playing games and dancing. As an intern, I learned foundational principles at summer camp; learn how to work with others, accept guidance and develop decision –making skills. A big part of my internship was being able to apply what I have learned in the classroom setting to the actual field and having a positive impact on people lives.

Over the course of 7 weeks at summer camp; I implemented nutrition education and physical fitness programs at 11 camp sites, impacting over 3,849 campers ages 5-13!
