FLORIDA BALLPARK (OPENING IN 2021)

In February 2019, the University Athletic Association broke ground on a new baseball ballpark. The (estimated) $65

million baseball park, located on the southwest part of the University of Florida campus adjacent to Dizney Stadium, has a planned completion date of June 2020. The Gators’

first season in the new ballpark will be in 2021.

The new Florida Ballpark will feature a 360-degree open concourse, shade structure for fans, modern student-athlete and staff amenities, multiple seating and game experience options, high-definition video and sound, enhanced concession space and food options, and multiple prominent entry gates.

Student-athletes will have a private nutrition area/team lounge, film/team meeting room, expanded

locker room, indoor pitching and batting cages, and an enhanced training and rehabilitation area. The staff will have individual office space for all coaches and a lobby/reception area celebrating the program’s achievements.

All permanent seats will feature chairbacks and there will be multiple premium seating options along with grass berms and non-traditional seating that will bring capacity to more than 7,000. Chairback seating options will increase from 2,408 to more than 4,000 and 700-plus fans will be able to enjoy new club level seating. In addition to other parking options that will be available on game days, the project will provide an additional 400-500 parking spots adjacent to the ballpark, along with moped parking.

ALFRED A. McKETHAN STADIUM at PERRY FIELD (Capacity: 5,500)

2020 marks the final season at Alfred A. McKethan Stadium at Perry Field. The friendly confines of McKethan Sta-dium have been an important ingre-dient to the success of Gator baseball for over two decades. Since its open-ing in 1988, the Orange and Blue has been one of the toughest teams in the nation to defeat at home, posting a 910-300 (.752) record during the span.

Head coach Kevin O’Sullivan boasts a 361-99 (.785) overall record, and an eye-popping 84-16 (.840) mark in regu-lar-season series at McKethan Stadium in his 12-year tenure.

The Gators ran off a school-record 29-game home winning streak from May 2015 through April 8, 2016, have won eight Regionals, and claimed seven Super Regional titles on their own turf under O’Sullivan.

Over the past decade, nearly 1.5 million fans have enjoyed watching the Gators take the field against elite programs from across the nation each season.

Florida’s success on the diamond has led to unparalleled accomplish-ments at the gates over the past decade, recording the school’s top 20 single-game crowds and seven

three-game series with 15,000-plus fans. During that time frame, UF has drawn 61 crowds in excess of 5,000 fans and established a single-game record with 6,244 fans for a Saturday night game against No. 10 Mississippi State in 2016.

In 2018, the Gators established school records for total attendance (165,551) and average attendance (4,038)

As a result of its top attendance marks, Florida has been select-ed to host an NCAA Regional, one of the true tests for a collegiate baseball facility, 16 times. UF also hosted the 1989 Southeastern Conference Tournament.

The Gators have certainly benefited from their home crowd, having advanced to the CWS from Gainesville on 11 occasions: 1991, 1996, 1998, 2005, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

In addition to the entertaining brand of college baseball, fans are treated to theatre-like field-level seating, concession areas, an outstanding scoreboard featuring up-to-date player statistics, clean restrooms and abundant parking, along with a first-class press box for media covering the Gator program.

McKethan Stadium underwent a $350,000 plaza development proj-ect in 1996 that produced a new main entrance and created a plaza/courtyard atmosphere for fans surrounding the main grandstand. Construction over the previous summer had added 1,000 seats to the main grandstand to replace seating lost through prior construc-tion and press box expansion.

The press box was rebuilt during the fall of 1996 with the aid of an ad-ditional gift of $300,000 from Mr. McKethan. The actual playing field, one of the best in the SEC, underwent an upgrade during the summer of 1997, with the field leveled and new grass planted. Capacity was also increased to 5,000 at that time, with seats added along the left-field line and beyond the left-field fence. During the 2003 offseason, a brand-new Gators skin outfield fence and a padded backstop were at-tached. The infield and pitching mound were also graded and leveled and more outfield drainage was added. Lights were first installed at the stadium in 1977 thanks to a generous contribution from New York Yankees’ owner George Steinbrenner, a Bull Gator booster.

A $13-million dollar expansion to McKethan Stadium and the Lemer-and Athletic Center that was completed in September of 2006 fur-ther enhanced Florida’s complex. The construction project resulted in additional stadium seating and a baseball-specific building that includes a training facility, video room, offices, and locker rooms, as well as a new bullpen/batting cage building with concessions and an upper deck overlooking the playing field. A high-resolution Daktronics video board was introduced beyond the right-field fence during the 2012 campaign that provides fans with even more statis-tical information about the game.

The Don and Irene Dizney Plaza overlooks left field and is a spec-tacular vantage point for all of the action. Other major donors for the project included Gary and Nancy Condron, Rob Gidel, Tommy Oakley, the late George Sanders and W. Kelly Smith.

MCKETHAN STADIUM ATTENDANCE NOTES Florida broke its attendance record in 2018, hosting 165,551 fans - a school record - over 41 home games and its highest ever average attendance (4,038). In 2016, the Gators recorded the highest single game (6,244 vs. Mississippi State, 4/9).
