Native tree plantingBased on feedback from the Woombye community, Queensland Rail has planted 7,150 natives including Acacia, Eucalypt and Grevillea species within the stabling facility footprint to provide screening and improve the landscape for neighbours. One of the planting locations also includes a mound of excess top soil which has been retained and vegetated to further improve the landscape for neighbours. It is approximately 150 metres long, 1.5 metres high and 5 metres wide and has been split into separate sections to maintain drainage.

What is a stabling facility?A stabling facility is a secure area where trains are parked when they are not in operation. This includes NGR trains awaiting final testing or those in passenger service.Once the facility becomes fully operational later this year, trains will return to the stabling facility at the end of daily service and remain until they are required again. At night, stabled trains are cleaned and undergo minor maintenance inpreparation for the next day’s service.

What hours will the facility operate?Once in full operation, most activity will occur following the afternoon peak and before the morning peak to prepare trains for the first morning services.

Who do I contact now that

Construction of Queensland Rail’s Woombye stabling facility, located alongside the existing rail corridor just south of Woombye station, is now complete. Queensland Rail and CPB Contractors would like to thank the community for its patience during construction. This secure facility will house up to four New Generation Rollingstock (NGR) trains, part of the Queensland Government’s investment to increase the South East Queensland train fleet to meet the demand for rail services.NGR trains have commenced service on the Gold Coast and Airport lines and are currently being stabled at other locations. The Woombye stabling facility is not expected to commence full operations until late 2018 however, the facility may be used for training and testing

When will train horns be used at the stabling facility? Each train will be required to sound its klaxon (horn) once upon arrival and departure at the Woombye stabling facility. Once the facility is in full operation, as part of the train’s safety testing, the klaxon in bothcabs (at each end of the train) will also be tested before enteringservice. This will be a short sounding of the horn.

What sort of noise will the facility generate?Once the facility enters full operation, activities will include staff vehicles arriving and departing at the beginning and end of a shift, the trains entering and exiting the facility (including the sounding of train horns), cleaning (similar to typical household/domestic cleaning activities), the train air-conditioning units and decanting (emptying toilets).

Will the stabled trains make any noise? For workplace health and safety reasons, air-conditioning units must continue to operate while parked trains are being cleaned and prepared for the next journey. However, the new trains will have a stabling mode function that is activated when there has been no activity on the train for 60 minutes. It is anticipated that this will reduce noise compared to the noise generated by older trains.

What type of vehicle movements can be expected? Once the facility enters full operation, crews will arrive and depart for their shifts in private vehicles. There will be occasional traffic from services such as rubbish collection and maintenance crews to work on the track infrastructure, buildings and utilities.

What activities will occur at the facility?Once the facility enters full operation, trains will be cleaned daily which will involve rubbish collection, surface cleaning and emptying toilets, as well as rectifying minor faults, such as changing LED lighting and small component replacements inside the driver cab and

LightingHow will the facility lights be managed? The Woombye stabling facility features modern directional LED lighting. This type of lighting differs significantly from high intensity discharge lamps such as pole-mounted lights usedat sports grounds, where the light source is clearly visible. Beams can be concentrated to highlight movement areas, such as walkways, while minimising lighting in areas which are used less frequently.Unlike lights at a soccer field or stadium, for example, these LED lights produce less obtrusive glare and light spill.

How will lights be managed during periods of no activity? The Woombye stabling facility’s LED lights will be dimmed by 50 per cent or lower after one hour of inactivity.Lighting is also broken into three zones so that sections of the facility are lit at an operational level of 100 per cent only when required. On arrival of a train, or as movement is detected in designated areas, lighting
