The Combipac is a hybrid smoke and water tube design boiler, with combustor based on the principle of Fluidised Bed Combustion. The fuel bed is fluidised by the injection of air from the bottom of the bed, through a set of air nozzles using an Forced Draft fan. This produces a fuel bed resembling a boiling fluid, which helps achieve uniform mixing and efficient combustion.

Combipac boilers offer better turbulence levels, better residency time, low excess air and uniform distribution of air-fuel mixture in order to improve overall combustion efficiency.

Components of Combipac Boilers

FurnaceFurnace is an enclosed structure in which fuel material can be heated to very high temperatures in order to attain heat.Combipac boiler comes with various fuel feeding options, which offer the flexibility to fire a wide variety of solid fuels in boiler :

Under Bed Feeding Consists of layers of fuel mixture feed upon combustion chamber which is further connected to rotatory feeder and a booster fan.

Over Bed Feeding Consists of supplying of supplying fuel over a head using screw feeder.

Membrane Panel AssemblyMembrane Panel Assembly is installed above the furnace. Its function is provide heat to water flowing inside the pipes of the membrane network from riser to down comer through heat exchange from radiation due to combustion in furnace.In Membrane Panel Assembly, tubes are joined with strips to provide heat transfer area and also to avoid flow restriction.More number of tubes than the desired quantity is avoided in order t yield higher circulation velocity and avoid phase stratification.

Shell AssemblyShell of combipac boiler can be considered as fire-tube part of the boiler. Open end of the shell is installed alongside the membrane panel assembly.Hot flue gases are made to pass through set of tubes horizontally housed and thus welded on both of the ends of shell plates while the water is made to flow inside the shell in order to heat it through conduction.For full utilisation of heat passing from the tubes, spiral coils are introduced inside these tubes thus creating a turbulence in flow resulting in better absorption of heat.

Air PreheaterFunction of Air Preheater is to preheat air being supplied to combustion chamber by exchanging heat from the exhaust which is being drafted from boiler shell.APH increases the efficiency of overall boiler as well as lowers the temperature of exhaust gases which are to be further emitted into environment.

ChimneyChimney is used to draft exhaust from boiler to environment.Induced Draft Fan is connected in chimney which induces the exhaust from boiler thus creating a pressure drop in boiler and forming natural circulation of flue gases.Main function of chimney is dropping pressure of the exhaust to that of atmospheric pressure before admitting exhaust in environment.
