How to begin: GO to

Select ProQuest Dissertations & Theses, ProQuest
Home page will be displayed. From the first screen,
select then “Dissertations & Theses” (PQDT), the
PQDT database screen will be available, which enables
user to browse, do basic search and advanced search,
see figure below.
Browse
User can browse alphabetical list of dissertations and
theses by subjects or location, see figure below.
From browse option, user can view more in details of
each selected subject / location, see detailed locations
under Japan within the box of the above figure.
Basic Search
The PQDT first screen provides default Basic Search option for user to enter word or phrase, i.e.,
“online social network”, click for search, and the results will be displayed, see figures below.
Advanced Search
Advanced search allows user to create a search that is as precise as he/she needs it to be. Click “Advanced” at Home page screen, “Advanced Search” screen with different options is provided.
User can enter word or phrase, select/specify field (optional, default All fields), use Boolean operators AND, OR, NOT, and select other Search options if needed. Search options include: date range, degree or manuscript type, language, sort result by, and items per page. Click then “Search” to continue, see next figures on the next page for sample “Advanced search” and results.
ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Full text is the world's most comprehensive collection of dissertations and theses. The official digital
dissertations archive for the Library of Congress and the database of record for graduate research. PQDT — Full Text includes millions of
searchable citations to dissertation and theses from around the world from 1861 to the present day together with over a million full text
dissertations that are available for download in PDF format. Over 2.4 million titles are available for purchase as printed copies. The database
offers full text for most of the dissertations added since 1997 and strong retrospective full text coverage for older graduate works. Subject
coverage is Interdisciplinary, including Business, Health & Medicine, History, Literature & Language, Science & Technology, Social Sciences, and
the Arts.

Sample Advanced search
User searches for “sustainable development” with search options: “within last 10 years”, Doctoral dissertation, and written in English, click then Search, and gets results.
Command Line Search
From Advanced search screen, user can create very precise search, using search fields and operators, called Command Line Search, see figures below.
From figure above, user wants to retrieve only documents with “food” in title and with “Smith” as author(s), he enters then in the search box as: AU (smith), TI (food), and clicks “Search,” and the results are displayed with his search statements.
Find Similar
This is another advanced search supplied for user to find more text documents like one he has already found. From Advanced search screen, click ‘Find Similar”, enter word or phrase (or copy block of text from document and paste it), i.e., “functional food,” in the “Find Similar” box and click “Search,” and results with different types of documents from other sources dealing with “functional food” are provided, see figures below.
Search Results
There are different ways to view and manage search
results.
From search results displayed in figure above, user
can select any title(s) for preview PDF (24 pages
supplied), citation/abstract, and full text PDF,
narrow results by source type, subject, location, and
more, search within, and modify search. User
can also select item(s) to continue: print, e-mail,
sort, save and export.
Export Search Results
To export search results, user can select items, click on “Export/Save”, at “Export to:” choose EndNote, click “Continue”, “OK”, and the selected titles will be directly added into ENdNote library. Close Dissertation & Theses
Click Exit at the right top of the blue bar to close the
database.
