Lines that extend to infinity in one or bothdirections, known as rays and constructionlines, respectively, can be used as referencesfor creating other objects. To activate X-Linecommand one of the following option can beadopted:

Draw menu: Construction Line

Command line: xline

Short Cut Key : XL

. Create construction linesin X or Y axis of the current UCS.

. Creates a construction line in one of twoways. Either you select a reference line and thenspecify the angle of the construction line from thatline, or you create a construction line at a specificangle to the horizontal axis by specifying an angle.

Creates a construction line that bisectsan angle you specify.

. Creates a construction line parallel to abaseline you specify at offset distance.

Rays have similar function as that of Construction Line. Unlike construction lines,

which extend in two directions, rays extend in

only one direction. To Activate Ray Command

Circles, like lines and every other drawing objectin AutoCAD, are mathematically defined. Lines aredefined by the coordinates of their endpoints.Circles are defined by the coordinates of thecenter point and a specified numeric value for theradius.

To activate Circle command on of the following method can be selected:

Draw Toolbar CircleMenubar Draw Circle

On Command Window write “Circle”

Short Key “C”

Draws a circle based on a center point anda radius. Select a center point in the drawing window, and

then either enter a value for the radius or drag a second

point from the center point to indicate the radius. This is

the default method for drawing circles. Draws a circle based on a center point

and a diameter. Select a center point in the drawing

window, and then either enter a value for the diameter or

drag a second point from the center point to indicate thediameter. Because it’s a diameter distance that you’re

dragging, the second point is twice as far from the center

as the circumference.

Draws a circle based on two endpoints of thediameter. Specify two points in the drawing window;the two points are treated as endpoints of thediameter of the circle.

Draws a circle based on three points on thecircumference. Specify three points in the drawing window;a circle is drawn through the selected points.

: Draws a circle with aspecified radius tangent to two objects. Select two existing objects, and then enter a value for the radius. AutoCADdraws a circle tangent to the two selected objects with thespecified radius (assuming such a circle is possible).

Draws a circle tangent to threeobjects. Select three existing objects and, geometry permitting,

AutoCAD draws a circle tangent to all three of them. This one is

not really an option of the CIRCLE command but a special

macro that uses the 3 Points option in combination with the

Tangent object snap.

Any of these options will create a circle, but

which one you choose depends on the drawing

geometry and the information you have. For

example, you’re given the requirement for acircle of diameter 29.57137, it’s easier to use

the CIRCLE command’s Diameter option than it

is to dig out your calculator and divide29.57137 by 2 to get the radius.

OFFSET, like COPY, duplicates selected objects, but it’s more rigorous in where it lets you put thoseduplicates. It also doesn’t make exact copies;different object types offset in different ways.

In a typical drawing, you are likely to find severalobjects that are parallel to or offset from eachother. You can use the Offset command to create

this effect on geometry in the drawing andincrease efficiency by reusing existing geometry.

The Offset command creates a new object whoseshape parallels the shape of a selected object.

: Offsets a selected object the distance

of a point picked in the drawing window.

: Erases the source object after it has

been offset.

: Offsets the object to the original source

layer or the current layer.

TRIM and EXTEND use existing geometry to modifyother geometry. The TRIM command lets you cutobjects by selecting other objects that cross them. The EXTEND command lets you lengthen objects

by selecting other objects that you want them toreach.

You can use the Trim command to shorten and theExtend command to lengthen existing geometry to

meet the edges of other objects. This means thatyou can create an object such as a line and lateradjust it to fit precisely between other objects.
