RIGOR, RIGOR THAT’S OUR GOAL, WHOEVER HAS GRIT WILL SURELY GROW!
YELLOW KNIGHTS REIGN SUPREME IN THE INTRAMURALS Y-E-L-L-O-W KNIGHTS, LET’S GO! This was the chant
that filled the SSIS gymnasium after the Over-all
Champion of the Intramurals 2019 was named last March
15.
After four years, the Order of the Yellow Knights is
back on top! The Over-all Champion fought a tough
battle against both the Blue Knights, First-Runner Up, and
the Red Knights, Second Runner-Up. It was not easy for
the Yellow Knights to snatch the title.
The Intramurals started off with the lighting of the
torch which symbolized the commitment of each team
to observe sportsmanship all throughout the four-day
Intramurals. The Yellow, Blue, and Red Knights were
Intramurals. Also, what spiced up the
competition is the addition of the
Question-and-Answer portion. Each muse
and escort exhibited his or her wit in
answering the questions. At the end, the
following pairs won the title Mr. and Ms.
Intramurals 2019: ECED- Jaden Buenavente
and Nisha Wong, Grade School – Gabriel
Suarez and Tiana Dizon, and High School
Department – Adam De Chavez and
Aitana De Chavez.
Yell Yellow! The valiant mentors and students of the Order of the Yellow Knights celebrate as the perpetual trophy was awarded to them for being the Over-all Champion of the Intramurals, March 15. Continued on page 2
represented by Jude Virtudes, Ken Datinggaling, and Denroe Hernandez,
respectively. It was immediately followed by the highlights of the opening day –
the presentation of the Pre-Schoolers, the Cheer Dance Competition, and the
Mr. and Ms. Intramurals.
The Order of the Blue Knights made history as it is declared as the winner
of the first ever Cheer Dance competition in SSIS. The Cheer Dance
presentations of all the teams wowed both the audience and judges. The
students from ECED, Grade School, and High School Departments danced and
cheered together for their respective teams. Moreover, the Mr. and Ms.
Intramurals is equally exciting as two major changes were made in the said
competition. For the first time, a pair from the ECED was chosen as Mr. and Ms.
Valiant Knights ignite! (From left to right) Denroe Hernandez, Jude Virtudes, and Ken Datinggaling lit up the torch which marks the opening of the Intramurals, March 12.

The following students represented their
respected teams in the Mr. and Ms. Intramurals: Red
Knights – Jap Pernez, Yassi Macatangay, Manij Nazari
Sin, John Delos Angeles, and Nicola Caparas, Blue
Knights – Nicolas Amurao, Miki De Chavez, Andrea
Balina, Gabb Mejia, Lourence Butihin, and Jazcha
Marayag, and Yellow Knights – Aaron Macaraig.
The first day was a blast but the succeeding
days just got more intense. Each team showed hunger
in winning, thus, the players doubled their efforts to
achieve. The games were so intense that it was very
difficult to predict who the winner will be, until all the
games were over.
CONGRATULATIONS to all the winners!

Truly, the Valiant Knights are not just giving recognitions to SSIS,
but to the Philippines as well!
Paul Leandrei Navarro and Sofia Uri Ysabel Geronimo, both Third
Graders, and Maria Bernadette Landicho, Sixth Grader, joined the
country’s finest young mathematics and science wizards and was
awarded the Student Excellence Award at the First Asia Institute of
Technology and Humanities, Pres JP Laurel Highway, Tanauan City,
Batangas, last March 18, 2019 by the Department of Education for
their celebrated feats and shining achievements in various
international mathematics and science competitions in 2018.
The three Valiant Knights took part in this historic event because
this is the first-ever awarding ceremony which formally recognizes the
international achievements of the young students. This awarding
ceremony is dubbed as “A Toast to Student’s Excellence” an
appreciation for the honor and pride these outstanding achievers had
done for the country. Moreover, this initiative is a manifestation of the
government’s recognition of the embodiment, dynamism, vibrancy,
and the winning spirits of the Filipino youth.
Way to go Leandrei, Suy, and Bernadette!
Landicho finishes
Second Place in
MTAP Regional Finals
After winning in the
MTAP Division Finals, Maria
Bernadette Landicho, Sixth
Grader, continued her feat in
the Regional Finals as she
bagged a Silver Award in the
MTAP Regional Finals,

at Silang Cavite, last March

shine brighter!

PARENTING CORNER Key Qualities of a Good School
Indeed, by giving our children access to quality education, we help them
achieve personal growth and professional success. Therefore, it is essential to invest in
your children’s future by providing them with the best possible education that only a
good school can provide.
The following are some of the key qualities that a good school must have
and are parallel to the distinctive features of Stonyhurst:
Goals and Direction
A successful school has the existence of concrete goals and direction. According to
research, the successful school actively constructs goals and then effectively
communicates them to appropriate individuals (e.g., students, teachers, and the
community at large). A school must also be open and willing to incorporate
innovation into goals for school processes and practices. So it's important to invite
input from all stakeholders in the process of developing school goals. In Stonyhurst,
the orientation for the parents are being done before the school year starts in order to
make sure that all of the initiative and goals of the school for the school year are
relayed effectively to everyone. Also, the school makes sure to constantly get
feedback from the students, teachers, and parents alike through the Mid-Year and
Year-End Surveys as well as through the evaluation of the school’s activities and
programs.
High Expectations
The second attribute is having high expectations of students as well as teachers.
High expectations of students have repeatedly been shown to have a positive
impact on student performance. Students are somewhat dependent on the
expectations placed on them during this period of their lives, as they are still shaping
their personal sense of ability and esteem. Teachers who are expected to teach at
high levels of effectiveness can reach the level of expectations, particularly when
teacher evaluations and professional development are geared toward improving
instructional quality. Something which is being observed and practiced in Stonyhurst.
Size of the School
The size of the school is also an attribute in the school's effectiveness. Research has
found that the smaller the school, the better students perform, especially in the case
of older students. Students in smaller learning environments feel more connected to
their peers and teachers, pass classes more often, and are more likely to go to
college. Small schools involve creative use of the same teaching workforce to
provide additional opportunities for learning for smaller groups of students or
specialized teaching to students who require extra attention. Reference:
