We will also be having a large array of solar panels installed, again to reduce electricity consumption and support the reduction of our ‘power footprint’ on the grid. SCHOOL INTERVIEW APP Thank you to the many families who responded to our survey regarding the introduction of the School Interview App for our parent/teacher interviews at the end of Term One. 137 families responded, with the responses being overwhelmingly positive. Most comments focused on the app’s ease of use, the ease of scheduling more than one interview on the same day at times to suit the family and the immediacy of the confirmation so dates could be locked into diaries. Given these responses and our teachers’ preferences for the use of the app, we will continue to use this system in the future. WORLD CHAMPION - EMILY H

Congratulations to Emily who recently participated in the World Professional Youth Jiu Jitsu Championship in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. Co mpeting in the 10/11 years age group, Emily participated in several rounds to be victorious and named World Champion for her age group. What an outstanding achievement. Emily is as humble as she is talented. TUGGERAH LAKES LEARNING COMMUNITY (TLLC) ENRICHMENT PORGRAM 2019 Once again our TLLC will be holding a series of enrichment activities for our primary students to familiarise and engage them with positive experiences in the high school setting. Both Tumbi Umbi Campus and Berkeley Vale Campus will host the activities, which will be conducted after school each Wednesday from 22 May to 26 June, between 3.30 – 5.00 pm. Priority is given to students in Year 6 who work with specialist high school teachers using the appropriate equipment for the specific activity.

BIKE LICENCES Congratulations to the following students who have agreed to follow the BBPS bicycle safety guidelines and obtained their 2019 bicycle licences:

Mason G 4M Samuel C 6S Aidan D 4M Riley D 6F

Imogen B 5/6T Imogen B 6S ADMINISTERING OF PRESCRIBED MEDICATION The school prefers NOT to administer prescribed medication to students, as medical staff are not employed at the school. Where administration of prescribed medication in school hours is essential to the student’s health and educational welfare, the procedures set out by the Department of Education will be strictly enforced. If your child needs to take antibiotics 3 times a day, there is no need to send the medication to school. Medication can be taken before school, after school and before bedtime. Should your child need any kind of medication throughout the day, please remember the following regulations: • Parents need to come to school and fill in an individual health care plan. A letter from the doctor detailing dosage and time of day medication needs to be taken must accompany the health care plan. • The parent needs to provide written instructions about any special requirements for storage indicated by their medical practitioner or pharmacist. • Students must not carry medications unless there is a written agreement between the school and the student’s parents. • For some conditions, prescribed medication and equipment must be immediately accessible, e.g. asthma and anaphylaxis medications such as Ventolin asthma relievers and Epipen adrenaline auto injectors. In such cases, arrangements for the carrying of medication and equipment will be devised and documented by the school.

DRIVING AROUND THE SCHOOL Can we please ask that everyone takes care when driving around our school. Even with our teachers discussing road safety regularly in class, children can be unpredictable and put themselves at risk. Parking a safe distance from crossings and staying below the 40km speed limit will make our school surroundings safer. Children do not start to develop the awareness required to be safe around roads until after 12 years of age. Parents are reminded that motorists doing the wrong thing whilst driving and parking in or around school zones are likely to be caught by police or council rangers, as they are patrolling regularly (often in unmarked cars). If you have any concerns regarding traffic incidents please contact The Entrance Police Station on 4333 2999 or contact the Road Safety Officer at Central Coast Council. ADOPT A FARMER Our school raised $692.00 to help our farmers on our Adopt a Farmer Mufti Day. Thank you for your generosity. Mark Waite Deputy Principal SYDNEY NORTH SELECTIONS PSSA (Primary School Sports Association) trials are being held to select teams of players to represent the Sydney North region at a state carnival. We have students in Years 5 and 6 who have trialled for soccer, netball, hockey, rugby league, tennis, cricket and AFL. It is incredibly difficult to be selected in a Sydney North team, students must display exceptional sporting ability to be picked. This year, to date, the following students have been selected for a Sydney North team:

Hailee G - Hockey

Zaylen E- Under 11s Rugby League

Bella W - Diving

Congratulations Hailee, Zaylen and Bella. Zone trials for rugby union, touch football, softball and golf are upcoming. Please see dates below:

Online orders can be placed via the Flexischools website up to 4.30pm the day prior to service. Orders can either be collected from the shop during opening hours or delivered to your child’s class – please note: Orders MAY not reach the class room until the day after the order is placed.

WOOLWORTHS EARN & LEARN Thank you to all parents who are collecting Woolworths Earn and Learn stickers and sending them into our school. The school has already received over 1000 stickers. Our goal is 30,000 stickers! Stickers can be deposited in the boxes outside the library. We also have a box in Woolworths at Bateau Bay. Spare sticker sheets are available outside the library. Students are encouraged to record how many stickers they deposit on the chart on the wall outside the library. This program allows the school to get new resources for science, technology, sport and art that the school could otherwise not afford. Your efforts to support this initiative are very much appreciated.

IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER: Kids need to be at school every day. If your child is sick you need to; phone the school, or use the Skoolbag app, send in a note immediately your child returns to school notify the school within 7 days of the first day of absence; and for absences of 2 days or more, it is a good idea to provide a Dr’s certificate. Sometimes there are family issues; you will need to let the school know your child will be away. Let the school know if you intend to take a holiday during the school term. Celebrate that your child is meeting new friends and growing up. Ask them “What was the best part of the day” or “What did you like the most”. Help your child get organised the night before, pack bags, get uniform ready – this can help avoid the “morning rush”. If there are any concerns speak to your child’s teacher or a staff member at the school.
