ABOUT THE CAMP

The Bateleur Camp, the epitome of tented luxury, comprises two intimate camps of nine tented suites each, set among the forests on the edge of the Masai Mara. Situated below the location where Out of Africa’s famous �nal scene was �lmed, this romantic and totally private camp re�ects the ambience of Kenyan safaris of the ’20s and ’30s.

The tented suites have a classic elegance with polished wooden �oors and ensuite bathrooms with stone-walled showers. Each tent has its own deck overlooking the vast game-�lled plains of the Masai Mara and a personal butler will ensure every need is catered for. Beautiful antiques adorn the comfortable sitting and indoor/outdoor dining areas, transporting guests back to the heyday of classic safaris. The camps share a deep refreshing lap pool.

Delicious Pan African meals are served in memorable settings under the stars, followed by fireside port and cigars. Bush breakfasts and romantic sundowners on the edge of the Great Rift Valley are available upon request.

ACCESSAir Kenya and Safari Link operates two scheduled �ights a day from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to Kichwa Tembo’s private airstrip. The two daily flights take approximately one hour. In addition, Mombasa Air operates a two-hour daily �ights from Mombasa. The lodge collects guests from and returns them to the airstrip, which takes 30 minutes

GUEST ACCOMMODATATION Two intimate camps each with just nine spacious tents with shingle roof, wooden doors and a private deck. Each tent is luxuriously furnished with gleaming wooden �oors and wood-framed beds, overhead fan, twin hand basins, shower, private w.c, cupboards, leather chairs and writing table.

GUEST SAFETYThe Camp sits in a non-fenced area and we request guests to be extremely vigilant at all times. Under no circumstances is a guest to walk around the lodge/camp at night, unless accompanied by a security guard.

GUEST AREAS The main guest areas, shaded by a dense forest canopy, consist of a sitting area with �replaces and verandas with views of the endless game-filled Mara plains. Beautifully hand-crafted artefacts, fine antiques, leather buttoned Chester�eld sofas, books, crystal and candlelight will transport guests back to the heyday of the romantic classic safari. A unique feature is the treeshaded lap pool with a view of the Mara. Guests are welcome to visit the Safari Shop at Kichwa Tembo Masai Mara Tented Camp.

LOCATIONBateleur Camp is situated on the western border of the Masai Mara Game Reserve in southwestern Kenya. Set on a private concession leased from Maasai landlords, the camp lies at the base of the Oloololo escarpment just below the spot where Out of Africa’s most famous scene was shot. The camp overlooks the plains of the Masai Mara and lies directly in the path of what is considered to be the greatest spectacle in the animal kingdom – the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti National Park of Tanzania.

SAFARISGuests can join morning and afternoon game-drives in open game viewing vehicles, night game drives on the camp’s concession, guided nature walks with a Maasai naturalist, Maasai community visits and lectures, sundowners at a location o�ering spectacular views across the Mara. Hot air ballooning is also available at an additional cost.
