One of the main features of the Junior Engineering Technical Societys southwest regional lead- ership conference here Saturday will be an awards luncheon honor- ing clubs and individuals. The society, better known as JETS, is a pattern for high school extracurricula clubs to stimulate interest among junior and senior high school youths in engineering and science careers. Purpose of the conference is to bring together at all levels those interested in the promotion and success of the organization. It is being held in co-operation with JETS, Inc., of East Lansing, Mich. Among those individuals to be recognized at the luncheon will be Frank: Oppenheimer of New York City, president' of the Gramercy Guild Group and the man who has made available the Gramercy JETS Scholarship. The $250 annual scholarship in Texas has for the past three years gone to Donald Patton of College Station, a junior mechanical en- gineering student at A&M. Patton was a JETS club member when he attended A&M Consolidated High School. The scholarship can go to the same student for four years if he maintains a satisfactory academic standing. Texas awards will go to the Connally High School of Waco for having the outstanding JETS club. C. T. Hudson is the club spon- sor. Mrs. Marie Mosman of Muenster High School at Muenster will be honored as the states outstand- ing club sponsor. For Louisiana, the outstanding JETS club award will go to Is- trouma High School at Baton Rouge. And Miss Gertrude Creag- han of the Istrouma school and William Lignos of Baton Rouge will receive honors as top faculty advisors. The outstanding company award goes to the Esso Standard Oil Co. of Baton Rouge. Speaker at the luncheon will be Dr. John C. Calhoun, vice chancel- lor for engineering at A&M and a member of the board of directors of JETS, Inc. J. G. McGuire, assistant to the dean of engineering here and chair- man of the conference committee, said registration for the parley is Dec. 18. The actual program begins at 9 a.m. the following day with a welcome address by Fred Benson, dean of engineering at A&M. Next are talks on national or- ganization and objectives by Rich- ard T. Fallon, executive director of JETS, Inc., and Dr. John D. Ryder, JETS president and dean of engineering at Michigan State University. The Senior class of A&M Con- solidated High School will present Moss Hart and George S. Kauf- mans three-act comedy, The Man Who Came to DinnerThursday at the high school auditorium. The comedy is centered around the tumult caused by Sheridan Whiteside, having dined at the home of the Stanleysslips on their doorstep, breaking his hip. During his six weeks of conva- lescing in the Stanley home, ;Whiteside utterly destroys do-; mestic tranquility. Strange gifts from his friends further compli- cate things; for Mrs. Stanley is forced to harbor penguins in her library, an octopus in her cellar, and 10,000 cockroaches in her kitchen. The play, under the direction of Mrs. Ermine Worrell, will be pre- sented with the following cast: Ann Elkins as Mrs. Stanley, Sharon Manning as Miss Preen, Frank Duian as Richard Stanley, Rebecca McNiel as June Stanley, Jimmy Holland as John, Lynda Chalk as Sarah, Nancy Minter as Mrs. Dexter, Janis Card as Mrs. JETS organization and objec- tives on the state level will be described by McGuire; A. Awards Luncheon To Top Regional Meet of JETS
