Battle Back Centre Lilleshall
• Mission, Vision, Values– "What do we do?"
– "For whom do we do it?"
– "How do we excel?“
Battle Back Centre Mission
• A Mission statement tells you the fundamental purpose of the organization.
• It defines the customer and the critical processes.
• It informs you of the desired level of performance.
Battle Back Centre Mission
• The Battle Back Centre Lilleshall exists to help Armed Forces personnel who are wounded, injured or sick to achieve the best possible recovery and return to Service duty or make a smooth transition to civilian life. This will be achieved through the provision of high quality, people centred, adaptive sport and adventurous training activities that are relevant to each individual’s recovery plan as well as being safe, enjoyable, benchmarked against international standards, independently evaluated and delivered by committed world-class coaching staff.
Coaching is unlocking a person's potential to maximize their own
Performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them.
Sir John Whitmore
Human character. This is the area where we’ve made the least progress – learning about the brain, about our behaviour and the ways we relate to one another. I think that’s the most important direction we can take in the next twenty years, basically to
begin to understand ourselves.Neil A. Armstrong
Battle Back CentreVision
• A Vision statement outlines what the organization wants to be, or how it wants the world in which it operates to be. It concentrates on the future. It is a source of inspiration. It provides clear decision-making criteria
• “Where there is no vision, the people perish”– Proverbs 29:18
Battle Back CentreVision
• The Battle Back Centre, Lilleshall seeks to create a dynamic and enjoyable learning environment that promotes success at the personal, interpersonal and organisational levels. Participants in our programmes will increase their self confidence, gain motivation, improve their ability to deal with stress and develop a positive mental attitude. They will learn to focus on what they can do not on what they cannot.
Don't listen to anyone who tells you that you can't do this or that. That's nonsense….
Go anywhere you want to. Never, never let them persuade you that things are too
difficult or impossible.
Gp-Gapt Sir Douglas Bader CBE, DSO*, DFC*
Battle Back CentreValues
• “It is important that an aim never be defined in terms of activity or methods. It must always relate directly to how life is better for everyone....The aim of the system must be clear to everyone who is in the system. The aim must include a plan for the future. The aim is a value judgement”. – Dr W Edwards Demming 1900 – 1993,
American Statistician
• “It is not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are”. – Roy Disney, American Film Writer,
Producer, Nephew of Walt Disney
Whether you believe you can, or you can’t, you’re usually right.
Henry Ford
Battle Back CentreValues (1)
• Inspire, enable and support – We believe that to get the very best out
of those under our care we must help them develop a vision of what they are seeking to achieve and then inspire, enable and support them towards their goals.
• Trust– We believe that to get the best out of
those under our care it is vital to gain their trust. We will create an environment where they learn to trust us, themselves and each other.
We must provide the direction, the counsel, and the good example to ensure the concepts of excellence are firmly established in those under
our supervision.
Kofi Annan

• Taking responsibility– We believe in taking responsibility for our
actions and the results that we achieve. We believe in having the character and the courage to ‘make a difference’ and we understand how learning is enhanced by being enjoyable.
• A learning organisation– We learn from our successes and
failures. We value courage, calculated risk-taking, change and continuous improvement. We value all feedback and will accept it gracefully and act upon it in order to improve our own performance.
Obstacles are those frightful things that you see when you take your eyes
off your goal.
Sir Roger Bannister

• “You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him to discover it in himself”.– Galileo Galilei 1564 – 1642,
Italian physicist and astronomer
• Final words - Vince Lombardi
Gentlemen, we are going to relentlessly chase perfection, knowing full well we will not catch it,
because nothing is perfect. But we are going to relentlessly chase it, because in the process we will catch excellence. I am not remotely
interested in just being good.
Vince Lombardi
