Ken read a thank you letter from Kelly M Kredick for the Christmas cards that we signed

at the December meeting that went to the troops in country. Paymaster's Report

Ken reports the Battle Born Detachment challenge coins are now on sale for $5.00, with

the proceeds going into the general fund.

Report of League Members or Family Members in Distress

Ken reports that Bob Holtzer Is still in considerable pain but not so much as to prevent

him from going on another cruise on the 10th. Report of Officers

Ken made a motion to support no more than three Devil Pups. The motion was

discussed and carried unanimously. Ken also pointed out that being from a broken home is NOT a requirement, that how well they do on the physical fitness test and

having at least a C+ grade average are the requirements. A special committee of two

will be formed to work on the Devil Pups program, volunteers can contact the

Commandant or Ken.

Report of standing committees

Larry reports that the mid winter meeting where there was to be a vote on by-laws

changes was canceled. Larry also said that we needed a one page statement of the

detachment's activities for 2009 so that it could be read into the record at the Southwest Division meeting.

Commandant Olsen said that he would take care of this as soon as Larry provided the

Commandant with the email address. Commandant Olsen also called for as many who can to volunteer for the Reno Air Races, especially Sat. and Sun. As we get paid by the

man hours worked it would help all of us to work as many hours as we can. Volunteers

should contact Ken or the Commandant.

We are going to be putting together a new MCL recruitment packet that will feature the art work of John and lapel/cap pins that Larry will be procuring. Larry has a supplier

who will give us 100 pins if we buy 100 pins.

New business

The Commandant suggested that we look into procurement of USMC unit patches for an

exhibit in the VFW bar.

Ken informed us that he had gotten permission for us to install a storage locker adjacent

to the VFW meeting area, Fred said that he could provide the locker. Craig made a motion that we install the locker and Larry seconded the motion. This locker will be for

the storage of both BB Detachment gear and personal gear.

Good of the League

Ken also received an email from Cheryl Gardner advising that Maggie Wise, a wheelchair

bound life member of the Marine Corps League wants to attend meetings but needs assistance. Maggie lives at 4465 Boca Way in Reno.

Paymaster’s Report:

We expended an appreciable sum of money to build up our supply of hot sauce, which is now 398 bottles.

The air races yielded $1,425 in tips, just enough to cover our commitment to send three

to the Devil Pups Program. The check from JP is pending so the amount is not known but

service. They still need clothing donations. They are expecting over 200 vets this year.

Jim Snyder made a motion to donate $100 to the food bank; the motion was seconded by I and passed.

Participation in the Stand Down and Hands of Hope counts as one of the four causes that we need to set up a WalMart stand. The next occasion for a booth/tent at the Kietzke

WalMart is 30 Oct and volunteers are still needed. This is expected to make $800 to $1,000 per day and they will supply the lunch.

December 2010 Newsletter

Message from Commandant Richard Olsen: Greetings Marines,

I wish to thank all members and guests for their attendance at the

shortened December meeting/Christmas dinner. I believe that all had a good time, and enjoyed the large selection of food at the dinner.

Our presentation of the awards was necessary for those deserving

persons. Keep up the holiday spirit/ traditions by helping those who are less fortunate than ourselves, especially children.

My best wishes to all of you , and your families. May the good Lord

watch over each and everyone, and keep you and your loved ones safe

and secure.

I am looking forward to this new year, and to having our detachment excel in our activities. I hope you are also.

Semper Fi,

Rich
