January 2010 Newsletter
Message from the Commandant:
Greetings Marines,
I would like to thank all MCL members who attended the meeting Tuesday night. I feel
that everyone had good input, and meetings like this can only help the detachment
improve and expand. Please continue to promote our detachment to Marines you
meet/know.
Please check around the house for any Marine/Military patches that you want to donate
to the VFW/MCL potential display that I hope will be expanded over the bar area at the VFW. Any and all suggestions to help make our detachment better are most welcome.
Take care and hope to see everyone at the February meeting on Tuesday 02 Feb.

him from going on another cruise on the 10th. Report of Officers
Ken made a motion to support no more than three Devil Pups. The motion was
discussed and carried unanimously. Ken also pointed out that being from a broken home is NOT a requirement, that how well they do on the physical fitness test and
having at least a C+ grade average are the requirements. A special committee of two
will be formed to work on the Devil Pups program, volunteers can contact the
Commandant or Ken.
Report of standing committees
Larry reports that the mid winter meeting where there was to be a vote on by-laws
changes was canceled. Larry also said that we needed a one page statement of the
detachment's activities for 2009 so that it could be read into the record at the Southwest Division meeting.
Commandant Olsen said that he would take care of this as soon as Larry provided the
Commandant with the email address. Commandant Olsen also called for as many who can to volunteer for the Reno Air Races, especially Sat. and Sun. As we get paid by the
man hours worked it would help all of us to work as many hours as we can. Volunteers

We are going to be putting together a new MCL recruitment packet that will feature the art work of John and lapel/cap pins that Larry will be procuring. Larry has a supplier

The Commandant suggested that we look into procurement of USMC unit patches for an
exhibit in the VFW bar.
Ken informed us that he had gotten permission for us to install a storage locker adjacent
to the VFW meeting area, Fred said that he could provide the locker. Craig made a motion that we install the locker and Larry seconded the motion. This locker will be for
the storage of both BB Detachment gear and personal gear.

John reports that he has gotten all the information from I Putty that he needs to use the old web site, which is much better than anything he
could put together, to operate and update it. The address of the old
site will remain BattleBornMarines.com. John will be posting six
months of newsletters and the others archived. John will also be posting the by-laws on the web site. We will still have to pay $16.00
per month for web hosting, something that we need and would have to pay to someone. This includes the server that our site is on in an air
conditioned room and an Uninterruptible Power Source (UPS). Unless we get a discount for paying annually we will be paying quarterly.

We expended an appreciable sum of money to build up our supply of hot sauce, which is now 398 bottles.
The air races yielded $1,425 in tips, just enough to cover our commitment to send three

Participation in the Stand Down and Hands of Hope counts as one of the four causes that we need to set up a WalMart stand. The next occasion for a booth/tent at the Kietzke
WalMart is 30 Oct and volunteers are still needed. This is expected to make $800 to $1,000 per day and they will supply the lunch.
