LEADERS

PREPARING

FOR

1987

MISSIONARY CONVENTION

Preparations have begun for the 40th National Missionary Convention which

will meet Sept 20-23 (Sunday

through

Wednesday) in the Memphis, Tennessee

convention Center Complex

Don Baughman, pioneer missionary to Nigeria, is

serving

as Convention

President He has been a missionary in the West Africah nation

since

1956,

endeavoring to establish  missionary churches in Africa s most populous nation.

Don is also well known for his study

of

African snakes

This came about as a

result

of the Baughmann s moving out into

the

jungle to

try

to reach some of the

unreached people s

groups

They found out they had lots of

green

slimy looking,

large

poisonous neighbors that they needed to get to know, or at least know

something about them. Don is

now

in

the

process of contacting

the

people who

will be

the

main

speakers

at the convention He is also

travelling

to speak about

the Nigerian work and the convention. Don, and his wife, Marianne, are the

parents of four

daughters

Ruthie, the oldest, died as a result of an unknown

illness

in Nigeria at the

age

of f if teen

President Baughman has also appointed two key men to help. Jim A

very

has accepted the responsibility of being National Prayer Chairman. Jim has been

the minister of the Draper Park Chris tian Church in Oklahoma City since

1968

He

is a graduate of Lincoln Christian College. He and his wife, Patricia, have four

children Jim is

also

the Local Arrangements Chairman

for the

North American

Christ ian

Convent ion

which

meets

in Oklahoma

City

in

1987

Arthur Merkle will be the National Registration

Chairman

He established

the Wilmington

Ohio

Church of Christ with six families in 1954 the year he

graduated from Cincinnati Bible Seminary. In the   years of his ministry the

church

has grown to an attendance of nearly 500, has none

through three

building programs with buildings and property now valued over one million

dollars

In

addition

to

other missionary support

the

church has

now

taken

on

the

full support of John and Becky Bliffen as

their

Ministersof Missions. The Bliffens

will be going to Uruguay to

start

a church there. Arthur is the Treasurer of the

Ohio

Christ ian
