Main Street and E. Cuyahoga Falls Avenue) with local temporary pop-up businesses, sidewalk landscaping, bicycle-friendly infrastructure and enhanced pedestrian amenities. The Better Block initiative, starting in 2010 in a South Dallas neighborhood and now registering over 100 neighborhood projects throughout the world, is a community development demonstration tool that rebuilds an area using grassroots efforts. Better Block works to show the potential for a walkable and vibrant neighborhood center through engaging the community and its supporters. By developing “pop-up” businesses and entrepreneurial ventures, Better Block projects show the potential for revitalized economic activity on a challenged or blighted urban block.
