Better Block North Hill: Partnering to rebuild Akron, oneblock at a time
Team Better Block is dedicating a weekend to revitalize Akron’sTemple Square (the block of N. Main Street and E. CuyahogaFalls Avenue) with local temporary pop-up businesses, sidewalklandscaping, bicycle-friendly infrastructure and enhancedpedestrian amenities.
The Better Block initiative, starting in 2010 in a South Dallasneighborhood and now registering over 100 neighborhoodprojects throughout the world, is a community developmentdemonstration tool that rebuilds an area using grassroots efforts.Better Block works to show the potential for a walkable andvibrant neighborhood center through engaging the communityand its supporters. By developing “pop-up” businesses andentrepreneurial ventures, Better Block projects show the potentialfor revitalized economic activity on a challenged or blightedurban block.
