EXECUTIVE BRIEF Motion and Title: Staff recommends motion to: A) Accept on behalf of the Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office a National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators, Inc. award in the amount of $10,000 for the Prescription Drug Abuse Enforcement Project FY10; B) Approve a budget amendment of $10,000 increasing the Sheriff's Grants Fund. Summary: On September 1, 2010 the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) received an award from the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators, Inc. (NADDI) for the PBSO Public Service Campaign Project. The funds provided will be used by PBSO's Narcotics Division to conduct drug diversion investigations and increase public awareness. There is no match requirement associated with this award. No additional positions are needed and no additional County funds are required. Countywide (OW) Background and Justification: The National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI) is a non-profit organization devoted to providing prescription drug abuse education to its members. Membership includes law enforcement, regulatory agents, health care fraud investigators, the pharmaceutical industry, and health professionals. The organization has proven to be a valuable asset to law enforcement, the pharmaceutical industry and health regulatory personnel. NADDl's objective is to improve the members' ability to investigate, and prosecute, pharmaceutical drug diversion. These funds originated from a private organization.
