An exciting new Motorsport Event hopes to race into Wasaga Beach early June! The Inaugural Wasaga Grand Prix Beach BOOSTER Group and its partners, brought thousands of snowmobile enthusiasts to Wasaga Beach on a traditionally slow weekend in early January with the very successful SLEDFEST 2014! Beach BOOSTER now has a proposal before The Town to bring a Family Friendly Motorsport event to Wasaga Beach on the weekend of June 7 & 8. Joe Bickerstaff of Beach BOOSTER reminds us, there was a time when Wasaga Beach was known as “Canada's Daytona”! Our World Famous Beach with the beachfront activities to keep visitors happy, meant that we were recognized as Canada's Premiere Beach Resort! The action at our own Stock Car Track, Wasaga Speedway, added to our connection with the “Birthplace of Speed”, Daytona Beach, Florida. Beach BOOSTER Promotions is eager to bring family friendly, professionally organized street racing action to our beachfront with the Inaugural Wasaga Grand Prix! Organized Kart Racing draws crowds to events all over North America. Ontario’s many Kart Clubs each have teams of trained drivers with specialized racing karts that travel the circuit of races each season. Beach BOOSTER is proud to be associated and eager to work with John Bors as Race Director and the Toronto Kart Club, enjoying their professional expertise in presenting World Class Karting Events in many communities, each drawing thousands of people to their exciting, family friendly motorsport events! Our event weekend will include practice runs for the race participants between official races, providing spectators with non-stop action on the track. Beach Drive between 1st and 3rd Streets will become the flat-out straightaway allowing some racers to reach speeds of 100 mph plus! Beach BOOSTER is eager to work with and include the Scouts and Cubs Soap Box Derby into our inaugural event and will assure them of excellent exposure and a professional track environment, while making it a fun event for all involved in the Annual Community Soap Box Derby. “Thunder Alley” will provide visitors with all the exciting “eye candy” a high profile motorsport event should offer. Entertainment, vendors, automotive and racing displays, Kiddie Kart Rides and more will add to the excitement at our Main Beach for the Wasaga Grand Prix Weekend. “The Roar by the Shore!” Beach BOOSTER is planning events and activities that encourage participants, their team members & families... and of course the many spectators, to stay in Wasaga Beach for several days, enjoying the various events throughout the weekend while discovering what our great local businesses have to offer! Beach BOOSTER feels Wasaga Beach and our Main Beach are perfect locations to welcome a new Motorsport Event that will attract families from all over Central Ontario and beyond. Organizers feel that this weekend event in early June will introduce many families to our town, our businesses and give us an opportunity to encourage a return visit! Each participating Kart Club will promote this Inaugural High Profile Event in Wasaga Beach with its own promotional avenues, while Beach BOOSTER Group and our valued sponsors will encourage visitors to visit our World Famous Beach for the Inaugural Wasaga Grand Prix! Info and updates will be posted on the Wasaga Grand Prix Facebook and Twitter pages or contact Beach BOOSTER at [email protected] or phone 705-241-9762. Wasaga Beach Summer of 2014! “Racers.... In 1925, Helen Keller attended the Lions Clubs International Convention and challenged Lions to become “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness”. In Ontario, the Lions Home for the Deaf designed an award call the Helen Keller Award to honor outstanding Lions, Lioness and Leos. The Wasaga Beach Lions Club presented Helen Keller Awards to two of our members, Lion Martin Campbell and Lion Beverly Fowler. Lion Martin is our Past President and is currently the Zone Chair 8 North. Besides the endless hours that he has contributed to the club, during his time as president, our club brought in 13 new members! Lion Beverly is another one of our hard working Lions looking after the attendance for the dinner meetings and decorating and she excelled as our “tail twister” for the past two years bringing laughter to the club. Beverly is also our best Toonie Draw Ticket seller at our Home and Garden Show. Congratulations to both Martin and Beverly!

There’s still some snowy weeks left this winter and that’s good news for snowmobile enthusiasts. Simcoe and Grey counties boast some terrific terrain and awesome views of the Niagara Escarpment to Georgian Bay and more.

The local district (eight) of the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs has put together a figure-eight loop that cuts through much of the district and offers a sample of the area’s best features. The loop — called Ride the 8 — is well-liked because of its connected trails and ride-up amenities.

The loop brings riders to Wasaga Beach, on the south shore of Georgian Bay.An extension of the trail along Beck Street allows riders easy access to the shops and restaurants in the east end of town. From there, you can access all of Wasaga Beach.

Local hospitality, well-groomed trails, great scenery and plenty of places to get food and fuel make Wasaga Beach a popular destination for snowmobilers..There’s 110 km of trails in Wasaga Beach, a portion of which are on land owned by the Ministry of Natural Resources. The highlight is the dune area (OFSC trail 603) with an elevated lookout of the Nottawasaga River. You’re up about 150 feet and it overlooks the river and you’re always seeing deer down on the far side at any time of the day.

People come from far and wide to ride the local trails.

Because of the lake, we get great lake effect snow, so we are generally promised good, early snow.Wasaga Beach is less of a destination and more of a throughway, meaning people use the area as a base, going out on day trips. The best places to stay overnight are Saga Resort and Luau Resort.Boston Pizza, Studs Lonigans Pub and anywhere in the Stonebridge Town Centre plaza are easily accessible by snowmobile and popular gathering places for sledders.

Still More Good Snowmobiling This Winter
