2 General Descriptions
2.1 Basic BBS 6102 Characteristics
The BBS 6102 is an outdoor battery backup system, supplying 48 V DCbackup power to AC-powered RBS 6102 and RBS 6101 in the event of ACmains failure. The BBS 6102 cabinet can support up to three RBS cabinets.
BBS 6102 is installed on the ground, in the vicinity of the RBS cabinets.
To ensure proper battery capacity, long battery life and low operational cost, the BBS features two alternative cooling systems: the Direct Air Cooling Unit orthe Active Cooling Unit.
The Direct Air Cooling Unit brings in cooler exterior air through a filter andmoves hot interior air out of the enclosure. The Active Cooling Unit is an airconditioning system for warmer climate to keep the batteries cool.
The cabinet can be also equipped with an optional Heater to allow operationof the cabinet in very cold climates.
If additional battery capacity is required, the BBS 6102 can be extended withanother BBS 6102.
Four versions of the BBS cabinet are available, depending on the battery type,Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) or tubular plate (OPzV) batteries, and earthquakeresistance.
2.2 BBS 6102 Overview
Four possible BBS 6102 types of cabinets are available, depending on thebattery type used, as shown in Table 1.

4.4 Locking System
The BBS 6102 can be equipped with one security lock with two identical keys. The same key system is used as in Ericsson's outdoor macro radio basestations. Thus, the same key system lock options are available also for thisBBS 6102.
Once the lock has been opened or in case no security lock has been installed, the BBS front cover is opened via the standard Ericsson lock handle. This lock

Climate System
5 Climate System
5.1 General
The BBS features two alternative cooling systems:
• Direct air cooling, featuring fan ventilation, for best performance ingeographic areas with moderate temperature.
• Active cooling, for maximum battery life in warm climates
The cooling systems are designed as plug-in cassettes.
The cabinet can be equipped with an optional Heater kit, which is installed atsite.
5.2 Temperature Sustainability
Minor inner temperature deviations may occur, depending on solar radiationand the exact point of measurement inside the compartments.
5.2.1 Direct Air Cooling Thermal Performance
The Direct Air Cooling Unit features a fan and an IP55 class filter with thefollowing performance:
• Filter class F5
• Air flow: 200 m³/h
• Initial Pressure Drop: 10–20 Pa
The filter must be changed regularly, see BBS 6102 Maintenance.
Table 14 describes the performance of the Direct Air Cooling Unit.

(1) Note that the Direct Air Cooling Unit does not create temperatures lower than the ambienttemperature
5.2.2 Active Cooling Thermal Performance
The Active Cooling Unit has a compressor module which separates theinterior climate from the exterior climate. It provides the batteries with aroom-temperature environment, which maximizes the battery life-time. TheActive Cooling Unit is recommended in areas with dusty or polluted air.
Table 15 describes the performance of the Active Cooling Unit.

The Active Cooling Unit starts tocool when the battery compartmenttemperature is ≥+26 C and stopsto cool when the battery reaches atemperature of +22C.
Nominal ventilation airflow 200 m³/h
5.2.3 Battery Heater Performance
The battery heater performance is described in Table 16.

The Heater starts at a batterycompartment temperature of ≤+8Cand stops at +12C.
5.3 Power Supply
The climate system and its control system is operating at 48 V DC powersupplied by the RBS. When AC power is lost, the system voltage drops andthe climate system controller stops the cooling and heating, to maximize thebattery backup time.
Climate system power supply voltage range:
Maximum voltage 60 V DC

49 V DC and 57.6 V DC
Minimum allowedvoltage for the climatesystem controller
0 V DC
5.4 Climate System Power Consumption
Power consumption depends on the ambient temperature and how much thecooling system is in operation.
During AC power failures, the cooling system is switched off to ensuremaximum battery backup time for connected RBSs.
The following tables specifies the power consumption of the climate systemunits.
