Materials and storelayout both play critical roles in telling this story. The store is entered

through large-scale custom wood and steel pivot doors centered in aclean lined blackened steel and glass storeront. Inside the customernds a lot-like yet warm toned industrial space highlighted by a deeptoned wood beam ceiling system, hand troweled ochre plaster wallsand a rich colored concrete foor. BCV Principals have designed multiple Williams-Sonomaflagship stores including both new buildings and conversionsof existing structures. BCV's design approach has been toestablish a strong architectural vocabulary, which is used bothto create an alluring street presence and to define a dynamicseries of spaces that allow for the effective merchandising ofthe various products. The interiors are organized symmetricallyand detailed elegantly to ensure a positive and comfortableshopping experience, with the plan focused on a center of activity, the demonstration kitchen, that also serves as a cashwrap.

BCV Architects intent is to create an adaptive reuse o oneo the earliest examples o an adaptive reuse project inAmerica The Cannery on San Franciscos north waterront.

Originally built in 1907 as a peach cannery or Del Monte, the building was amously reinvented in 1967 by notedarchitect Joseph Esherick as a vertical retail experience withEuropean inspired walkways and loggias. Over the years, the industrial area around the Cannery was developed andthe pedestrian patterns have shited along with retailingstrategies. BCV has been challenged to re-envision thecomplex to add a new layer to the sites rich history andbring it into the twenty-frst century. The basic premiseo this approach is to create a new main entrance to theproject at Cannery Street. The plans include a completelyredesigned public space and west elevation. Notably,

the 1967 design in Cannery Walk will be restored andcelebrated, thus making clear the rich history o the building.

Two, became a naval base until its closure in 1994. Treasure Island is located in SanFrancisco Bay between San Francisco and Oakland. It adjoins Yerba Buena Island

and is accessible via the Bay Bridge. BCV Architects, teamed with Skidmore Owings andMerrill, Perkins + Will, Mithun, CMG, and other design consultants, have developed amaster plan for Treasure Island which will create San Franciscos newest neighborhood.

With environmental sustainability in mind, the team has developed an ecologically sensitivemaster plan that proposes to reserve more than sixty percent of the Island as open space, includinga twenty acre functioning organic farm. The plan also locates approximately 10,000 residentswithin a ten-minute walk of a new Treasure Island Ferry Terminal, and creates approximately200,000 square foot of community and destination retail in a new island center which preservesand integrates three existing historic exhibition buildings with proposed new retail buildings. Inaddition to participating in the master planning process, BCV is the design architect for the retail

and civic portions of the Island core development, which responds to the desire for sustainabilityby concentrating activity and transportation at a centralized hub. The plan also includes anexpansion of the Marina and recreational uses supported by sports and marine retailers.

At the center ofthe City of Inglewood, this village will build on thecharacteristics of the Los Angeles town centers thatgrew up throughout the basin in the 1920s and1930s.

In its infancy, Los Angeles was a place of economicpromise, social openness, and fun. These are thequalities of place that Hollywood Park intends to

recreate. Hollywood Park further seeks to revive anintegrated relationship with the natural environment,as envisioned by the 1930 Olmsted-Bartholomewplan for the Los Angeles basin. A great lake andcentral park are at the heart of Hollywood Park. Each of the major programmatic components relateto the central park.

ideas o an Italian hill town, and as such, the fne architectural character o manyo the buildings in the Center provides the bones o a transition into a luxuryretail destination. There are piazzas and buildings within Fashion Island whereBCV has applied Renaissance design principles in order to create an architecturalcharacter that has the ability to re-vision the entire shopping experience. Thearchitectural modifcations are intended to refne the character o the Centerto be in alignment with the graciousness and sophistication o Pelican Hill.

BCV recognizes that the Center has elements within it that already suggest asense o elegance and place-making unrivaled anywhere in Southern Caliornia. The proposed design maintains much o the existing organization o buildingsand exterior spaces, but seeks to reinvent their detail, scale and proportionsso that the acades are more classical in their construct. Further, the intention isthat the acades are not mere decorations, but are extensions o the structurewithin, so larger buildings can properly contain the retail tenant program.

The Urban Field Farm Stop, a competition entry, contemplates an

innovative distribution system for fresh farm product to urban cen-

ters. This new concept envisions the entire city map as an Urban

Field of farmers markets integrated directly with the mass transit

circulation system of the city. Select bus stops transform into indi-

therefore establishes a citywide network of alternate sales points

for farmers and a convenient greener alternative to the single

venue farmers market for consumers. The Farm Stop prototype is
