Feeling Lucky! 1st day of fall and I'm sitting outside still barefooted. A BIG storm just missed us, gorgeous sunset for about an hour or more. The stars are out and with said storm the unseasonable humidity left with the wind. Awesome! Love the cool dry air as long as I'm still wearing flip flops or barefooted, winter is long enough, just let the fall last please!

We had a great summer in spite of some wetter and cooler weeks, which the mosquitoes loved too. Even though Elbow is high, our docks are all close to being water logged, we truly can't complain. We've had a gorgeous week in the 70s and 80s, dare I say almost too warm, Shhhhh. I'll pay for that. I hear we have a doozy of a winter coming. Since spring for 2019 was nonexistent, I'm really not ready to contemplate winter yet. My favorite answer to the question, "How do you handle the winters up here?" Answer, "The winters are fine, it's the springs that are rough!" That's why the 1st days of seasons are questionable at best for those of us calling the northwoods home. Dec 21st is way past winter for us and March 21st is a laughable 1st day of spring. So being barefoot Sept 21st is AWESOME!!!

This day last year Donnie and I returned from an incredible trip to Alaska. I can't believe its been a year. Our 2 weeks in Alaska were amazing! Trains & the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry are a perfect combo. The ferry in the whole southeast was spectacular. We had a bunk bed, sink, toilet and shower with amazing views and lots of folks to play cribbage with, perfect!! Next time we'll take more time visiting each place longer. My favorite, besides the scenery, was all the actual history museums.

In late Feb. we went back to our beloved Whitefish, MT for a snowboarding trip. Lots of fun. 12 of us made it. We had 8" of snow the night before we left to head west and 12" of snow right before we headed home. Typical ski trip for Dec/Jan, not so typical for a Feb/March trip! More of "it's the springs that are tough"!

A Big Shout out to all our friends/guests to the south and south east who have been battling all the flooding.

Our newest adoptee, Taco Cat, is doing well, thriving actually. She decided to stay here in spite of all the vet shots & spaying, I'm guessing she decided she likes it here. So she will be greeting everyone next summer. Like Erin said, "You don't adopt cats, they adopt you."

Heading to Spain in a week. I've never been to Europe, so why not. Jess has planned the whole trip and I am going along with back pack and a "can't wait" outlook. With all airfare, beds to sleep in and transportation (planes, trains, buses & car rental) for 2 weeks we're travelling for under $1000 per person.

I'm excited!! I will know a whole lot more when the newsletter is mailed but blissfully ignorant now!

Grand parenting...the best!!! I love spending time with William every day. His smile is so contagious. I also love spending time with all the grands. We had 5 grandsons and one nephew snowboarding this year, lots of fun! In October we'll be spending a week in Fort Meyers Beach, FL with 5 grands under 7. Wooo Hooo!!! I'll let you know.

November updates:We had a blast in Fort Meyers Beach with the kids and grandkids! We had

a blast in Spain. Everything was awesome! Then our last 36 hours, trying to fly home was interesting to say the least. Long story short, there was a huge organized protest in Barcelona which was the airport we were supposed to be flying out of. It basically stopped everything airport related. We made it home just fine but 36 hours of no sleep put a whole new twist on the jet lag, ha ha. Heightened security & running between buses, trains, taxis and the Madrid airport and lots more running, we made it.

It snowed here while we were gone, 6" and we were the lucky ones. I'm still hopeful for a longer fall. The lakes and all rivers, ponds etc. . . are way too high. The water has no place to go. So we need a long fall to hopefully help dry everything up. Elbow is at least a foot too high right now. Elbow flows north eventually and the Mississippi flows south eventually and neither are moving very well. It is bad for our lake's shoreline, its been bad for farming and it could be really bad for spring flooding. Fingers crossed!!

Well, like Donnie pointed out, I've been gone most of October but I think for the most part the weather is hanging in there. I know our farmers to the north and west are also really struggling with harvest this year, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Monica and I met in Fort Meyers for this year's newsletter, still here now. Having a great time at friend Jayme's house. Some work, some play and some more work. It's our newsletter/calendar/rate sheet and Christmas card powwow. Thank you SO much Jayme for providing the house, food, beer, internet connection, printer and lots of friendship and laughs.

Jolly would be impossible to keep going without all the help from family & friends. It's just a lot so . . .Thank You, Thank You!!! It all helps!
