Offering Help for Life

Be the Church

It’s good to finally be here.

Moving is a major pain. It would be great if boxes could

just pack themselves. Unfortunately, as I have learned,

that’s not how packing works. Each possession must be

evaluated as to whether it should be tossed, donated, or

packed. At times, this process can be painful and time

consuming.

While packing the basement, I picked up my 4-foot Super

Soaker water gun I purchased in the 5th grade. Memories

of my neighborhood friends instantly flooded my mind.

Still, I had to consider if I -a 31 year old pastor- would

ever realistically use the water gun again or if it was time

to say goodbye. When I came to my decision, 15 minutes

had passed!

To make matters more complicated, during the final days

of packing, Grace was rear-ended on the highway and

Noelle caught a fever. Life was miserable for those

stretch of days. So, when we were greeted to a

beautifully prepared parsonage with a thoughtful gift

basket and a train of delicious home-cooked meals, I

could have yelled from the mountaintops, “It’s good to

finally be here!”

Indeed, my family and I have experienced a warm and

hospitable welcome. Thank you. The love is palpable and

words can hardly express the gratitude we hold in our

hearts. CUMC, you have floored us!

Interestingly enough, my earliest impression of

Commerce UMC dates a few years back. My mom runs a

dry cleaner in a small plaza. She is sandwiched between

a hair salon and an alterations shop both owned by fellow

female entrepreneurs. They get along quite well. Then,

on the far end of the plaza is a gentleman who owns a full

service custom frame shop. Apparently, when it snows at

the plaza, he shovels the snow. When ice accumulates on

the sidewalks, he salts it. It’s not his responsibility, but

he does it simply to be a good neighbor. For years, that

has served as a great comfort for me.

As it so happens, this good neighbor is a member of

CUMC. His name is Rob Gulf. He was my first impression

of CUMC, and he left a good one. With that, I already

knew I was arriving to a church that seeks to share

Christ’s love in concrete, tangible ways. This month and

always let us continue to be the church where we live,

work, and play. It’s a small world and our actions matter.

May God bless you so that you can

be a blessing to others. Pastor Andy Lee

Whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow - Proverbs 13:11

I wanted to share a couple of things that will help you earn donations for your church through UMCmarket.org.

This month is “Christmas in July DOUBLE Donation Month”!

The entire month of July your church will earn double donations from select retailers. You don’t need to make any changes to your purchases, just make sure you choose Commerce UMC as the church to receive your donation. Sign in to the mall and select your favorite retailers. When you do your normal online shopping, Com-merce UMC earns a donation on each purchase based on the pre-arranged % of giving from featured retailers being doubled all month long. From new sneakers to copy paper to booking a trip, you will earn donations for your church that will be-come part of their funds used for their mission work both local and worldwide. UMCmarket is free to do for both you and the church, it’s easy and the fastest way to raise funds through online shopping.

This is a zigzag word search puzzle. Words go left, right, up, down,

NOT diagonally, and can bend at a right angle.

There are no unused letters in the grid,

every letter will be used only once.
