BE THE CHURCH A MESSAGE FROM OUR DS
The Christian community has observed the Lenten Season (days of reflection, meditation, prayer and focus) and has participated in the celebrations of Holy Week and Resurrection (Easter) Sunday. The special segment of the Christian calendar is looked forward to by many. It is a time of spiritual renewal and grounding as we contemplate the life and ministry of our Lord. We cannot give serious thought to this season without being reminded anew of the love of God for the people of this troubled world. It is this reality - the unfailing, never changing love of God that strengthens us and keeps us steady in the uncertain and even violent times we experience. There is violence and uncertainty everywhere - even in the weather, as the seasons change. People around the globe are facing storm winds, raging floods and devastating fires-coupled with the sometimes extreme violence of people against people. Jesus, the Great Head of the Church, all the while marches resolutely forward, experiencing the precipitous descent to the cross, to the grave, to the dwelling place of the demons. Then the mighty power of God is revealed again in victory and the marvelous ‘ascent’ begins - from the grave, back to fellowship with the disciples and ultimately back to the right hand of the Father. God’s answer to the challenges and problems and the sins of our world is nothing other than THE CHURCH! The church, the people of God, in encouraging and enlivening fellowship with God through Jesus, empowered for daily ministry through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, brings light and hope to people the world over. The troubling circumstances which we face notwithstanding: BE THE CHURCH. May God bless you with joy and peace. Earl
The Ministry Festival is an
inter-generational event, jointly sponsored
by LAMP, SDMI & NYI. We come together
as ONE for the purpose of discovering how
to “Pass On The Faith.” We do this through
worship, conversations, learning
opportunities, breakout sessions and
listening to the WORD through the
messages of our guest presenters.

Dear friends;
I am writing this note to you to share with you the news that Vernita and I will have completed our current term of election at the time of our District Assembly in June, 2019. We have sought the leading of our Lord and have decided to retire from the District Superintendency at our upcoming Assembly.
We are grateful to our Lord for His call to ministry which has guided and kept us over these several years. We are also deeply grateful to you, our friends and colleagues - fellow servants of our Lord and of His church. Thank you for the opportunity you have afforded us to share in your life and ministry. We feel truly honoured.
Dr. Bob Broadbooks, our USA/Canada Regional Director and, Dr. Ian Fitzpatrick, our National Director, will be working with the members of the District Advisory Council (DAC), in consultation with our Jurisdictional General Superintendent, Dr. Eugenio Duarte to develop nominations for election to the District Superintendency. The nominations will be presented to the District Assembly in June 2019 for election.
The District Advisory Council is comprised of the members of the District Advisory Board, the Chairperson/President of the NYI, NMI and SDMI councils and the District Secretary.
Please be in prayer that our Lord will grant guidance and wisdom to those who will be serving us as the DAC during these days of important decisions.
God Bless. Earl
LAMP@Charis 2019 Our annual weekend event held at Charis Camp,
Chilliwack, was an exciting and dynamic time where the generations came together to consider the critical
life-affirming questions; “Who You Gonna Serve?” and this year we added; “How You Gonna Do It?”. Dr. Rob Snow
(Ambrose Professor) and Dr. Gary Bennett (Pastor, Victoria Church) helped us think, learn and discover about God’s call
on our lives.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR NATIONAL DIRECTOR
23 April, 2019
Dear Nazarene News Recipients:
I hardly know where to being, but I know I must. This past Sunday we all
celebrated the Resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. At the
same time hundreds of our Christian brothers and sisters were
massacred as they worshipped in their churches in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Children who just twenty minutes earlier were enjoying Sunday School
were suddenly ushered into the immediate presence of Jesus.
We are one Christian Family and when one rejoices we all rejoice and
when one hurts we all hurt…..today we are hurting. Because people we
call “family” are hurting. My heart is aching over this, and it will probably
ache over and over again as more and more Christians come under
attack. This is real-time pain, this is real-time agony being experienced
by people who love the Lord and demonstrate that love through
worship.
Please pray for the families directly affected by this attack. You don’t
know them by name but Jesus does and He can make the necessary
connection of grace and peace.
Blessings and Prayers
Reverend Ian Fitzpatrick
As Pastor Ian has shared from his
heart, let us remember to pray for our
brothers and sisters and for all those,
regardless of faith, who suffer because
of hatred and violence.
Pastor Christabell Selvalingham, pastor of our Nazarene Tamil churches,
reports that communications in Sri Lanka have been disconnected so
many people in our Tamil congregations still don't know if their friends
and relatives have been affected; particularly our Mississauga Tamil
church. Pastor Christabell Selvalingham's sister-in- law was there at the
time visiting her sick mother but is known to be safe.
She also reports that at least 45 children were killed from the Zion
Pentecostal Church while waiting for Sunday School and many more
that haven't been identified.
Please keep our Tamil people in your prayers as they wait on more
information from their country.
