L ike so many others before him, Mark ended up here

at the Mission because he’d “hit rock bottom.” And like others before him, he found a way to change his life!

Originally from Browning, MT, Mark has a sister here in Great Falls and had visited the Mission in 2008. But more recently, due to substance abuse, his life had been going “pretty much downhill.”

From his previous visit, Mark knew we offered a Christ-centered recovery program, and that’s one of the things that drew him back—he wanted to “change my life and make a full commitment to God.”

It was during his first few days as a guest here at the Mission that Mark learned about our six-month Christian Discipleship Recovery Program, designed to help men dealing with substance abuse and other life-controlling problems.

Mark signed up a week later and credits the program with some big changes in his life and the lives of others. When he’s not attending Bible study, life-skills classes, a support group or daily devotions, Mark keeps busy helping out around the Mission.

Before he joined the program, Mark had turned away from his Christian upbringing. Today, he’s walking with God!

“I made a complete 180!” Mark says proudly. “I have turned my life around so much. I don’t look for approval or acceptance. I have more confidence and self-esteem.”

Mark hopes to put some of that new-found confidence to work in our Disciple Leadership Training Program, where he can learn to help others the way he has been helped.

A Message from Jim Kizer

I don’t think anyone has ever gotten out of bed in the morning and said, “Gee, I think I’ll be homeless today.”

People are here for a reason. Some are simply seeking a

hot meal or a night of shelter. Many more are looking for help and a refuge – a shelter in God that can save and restore lives ruined by alcohol, addiction, abuse and abandonment.

Matthew 7:7 clearly describes the refuge and shelter found here at the Mission: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

All in need are welcome here, just as they have been since our doors were opened 51 years ago.

But it is only with your prayers and your support that we can continue to be a refuge for those who knock. Thank you, and God bless you for all you do.

“A Beacon of Hope Since 1963”

Jim KizerExecutive Director

25,750 meals. That’s 30,900 pounds of food – nearly 16 tons! That’s how much food Great Falls Rescue Mission will serve to hungry men, women and children this Thanksgiving season.

Wow! That seems impossible. But with your help, it will happen.

It costs just $1.79 to feed one hungry person. Just $1.79 to provide an entire meal of wholesome, home-cooked food…a meal that could not only help that person end a life of homelessness, but a meal that could be the start of a new and better life.

Your gift today will go a long way toward filling the Mission’s pantry and providing the care hungry, homeless men, women and children will need this Thanksgiving season and beyond.

Every gift you give is fully tax-deductible and, combined

with those of other generous individuals, helps people in need all year long. Great Falls Rescue Mission is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization that receives no government

funding.

“I felt genuinely cared for”

T rina began experimenting with drugs when she was only 11

years old, and eventually developed an addiction to methamphetamine. “I’ve been pretty much using on and off all of my life,” she says.

Last year, after 10 years of sobriety, Trina relapsed, and Child and Family Services intervened. “They took my child,” Trina says. “I had no place to go.”

Her caseworker recommended the Women & Families Shelter here at the Mission.

“I had never been to a Mission so I was really scared, but once I got here, I felt really welcome,” she says. “I’ve gotten so much support here and felt genuinely cared for – something that I haven’t had for a very long time. It’s overwhelmingly loving, the way a family should be, and you feel that when you walk in.”

That support has helped Trina regain custody of her daughter. “The Mission is the only reason I got her back because it is a very stable and spiritual environment,” she says.

Trina has regained and maintained her sobriety as well. “I don’t want to use anymore and my change of heart isn’t all from treatment, because treatment doesn’t do everything,” she says. “I honestly think it’s because of God and the support I got from here.”

Through chapel, Bible studies, fellowship, and a Christ-centered 12-step program, Trina has grown closer to the Lord. Meanwhile, her daughter attends kids’ chapels, weekly Bible studies, and summer camp. “She is

really into it. She loves it,” Trina says. “We have a very close relationship with God now.”

The Mission has also provided resources to help Trina build self-reliance, giving her computer access to search for work, and directing her to vocational training classes. “I want to get trained in a job and find housing for me and my daughter,” she says. “I want a stable life.”

Trina credits the Mission staff with her happiness and the hope she now has for the future. “Without these guys, I don’t think I could have done it,” she says. “I recommend this place to anybody that feels broken, that feels like they are lost and have no place to go…It is a very loving, caring and wonderful place to be, spiritually and emotionally. Whatever it is that you need – it is here.”

Laughter, Love and Learning at Life Light

This was an exceptional summer for the 120 boys and girls and 13 counselors who attended Camp Life Light! Each

day began with a healthy breakfast at the Mission to fuel these growing young children for the activities ahead. Games, crafts and Bible lessons occupied their time at local parks while swimming and field trips to Memorial Falls and the Sluice Boxes provided extra excitement.

A thrilling finish to an exciting summer was provided for the campers who joined their counselors for a week-long camping experience at Camp Utmost in the Rocky Mountains.

Thank you to all our donors who made this summer adventure possible!

Back to School Rally is a huge

success!

WOW! What a day this was. More than 1,100 boys and girls from Pre-K through grade 12 received new backpacks filled with school supplies at the Mission’s annual Back to School Rally. There was music by the Johnson Brothers, games, inflatables, a GFVFD truck, and a great lunch served by volunteers. This was a day the kids and their parents won’t forget. THANK YOU to the local stores who collected supplies, the businesses, churches and individuals who bought them and the volunteers and staff without whom this event would not be possible.

Get to know us better, learn about volunteer opportunities, read about the latest news and events and donate securely on our website at www.GreatFallsRescueMission.org.

Thank you for feeding people who are hungry.

Thank you for making sure homeless people have safe shelter.

Thank you for your prayers on behalf of those in need.

Thank you for offering hope and new life!

As a tangible way of showing our gratitude, I’d like to send you a very special 2015 calendar.

Please check the box on your reply slip. Your calendar will be mailed at the end of November.

A special gift to thank you for your support.

Great Falls Rescue Mission is a non-profit, Christian organization committed to caring for the hungry, hurting and homeless of North Central Montana. The Mission believes lives can be changed by actively demonstrating and sharing the love of Jesus Christ and meeting a person’s spiritual, physical, emotional and social needs. Great Falls Rescue Mission’s various ministries ease the burden of the most vulnerable, rebuild the lives of the broken and offer dignity to those who feel cast aside.
