BEARDEN SCHEDULE
NOTEWORTHY
This game is the second in a row where Bearden will face a former coach. Powell Head Coach Rodney Ellison was an assistant coach at Bearden during the 2006 season.
Powell was one of the four schools along with Bearden to receive a turf field for this season and is part of the reason that nine of the Bulldogs’ 10 regular season games in 2016 will be played on turf.
Bearden’s 52-‐point win over Karns was the Bulldog’s largest margin of victory in any game since their 1999 win over the Beavers (57 points). Bearden’s 59 points scored were the Bulldogs’ most in a game since the 2010 season opener against Walker Valley (72 points).
Powell has lost their last three home openers by an average of 41 points and is 5-‐7 in their last 12 home openers. Bearden is 8-‐3 in their last 11 road openers, with the eight wins coming by an average of 25 points, but the three losses being by an average of 50.3 points.

LAST MEETING Aug. 28, 2015
Bearden’s defense held Powell to just 104 yards of total offense and the Bulldogs rolled by the Panthers in the 2015 home opener, 30-‐0.
Bearden’s defense was the story, but the Bulldogs’ offense shined as well, led by running back Ty Warren’s 102 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
Powell played a freshman quarterback, Carson Cole, in a varsity game for the first time in over three decades, and he struggled all night.
Cole finished 12 of 21 passing for 72 yards and three interceptions.
Much of his discomfort could be credited to Bearden defensive end Spencer Jefferies, who finished with eight tackles for a loss.
Powell reached the red zone twice in the first half, but was unable to come away with points either time.
For the second consecutive game, Bearden punted the ball zero times.

Houser, Warren lead Bearden to second straight blowout of Karns By Wyeth Wilson Different season, same result. Bearden (1-‐0) won its season opener over Karns (0-‐1) in blowout fashion for the second consecutive season, this time topping the Beavers 59-‐7. Junior quarterback Dawson Houser, making his first start, completed 11-‐of-‐15 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns, along with 76 yards and a score on the ground to lead the Bearden offense. “Obviously, there’s nerves coming into your first career start, but I’ve worked really hard to get to where I am today and I was mainly just excited for than nervous,” Houser said. “I feel like I did a really good job of creating the tempo of the offense, putting the defense in bad situations where they were gassed. “I think they knew I could move, but they didn’t know how fast I could move.” Houser got the Bearden scoring started with a five-‐yard touchdown pass to sophomore tight end Addison Ironside with 9:13 remaining in the first quarter. The Bulldogs would score three more times in the first quarter to take a 28-‐0 lead and essentially put the game away, once on a Jordan Ferguson 19-‐yard touchdown reception, and twice on runs by senior tailback Ty Warren from two yards and one yard out. Warren finished the game with 83 yards on 17 carries and three touchdowns. “The offensive line played exceptionally well tonight,” Warren said. “We had a few mental busts here and there, a few mis-‐reads on my part, but overall I think we all did well. “It’s the first game, so we’ll build off of it.” On the kickoff following Warren’s second scoring run of the day, Karns would see the end zone for the only time all night, returning the Bearden kick for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 28-‐7. Any hope of a comeback by the Beavers was quickly diminished, as Warren added his third score of the game just two minutes and 14 seconds later. The Bearden defense severely limited the Karns offense all game, holding the Beavers to just three first downs and 38 total yards. Most of the Bearden starters were pulled at halftime, and a running clock was instituted for the second half. “When everyone else does their job, it’s easy to do your job,” Houser said. “This win definitely increases confidence. “Not just in me, but in the whole team. And I’m excited to get back next week and go over to Powell.”
